Question about Ford F-150

After work yesterday when I started my truck a ?Check Gauges? message displayed on my odometer readout. It was there for probably 2 seconds and went off. I then turned the truck off and started it again, and it did not appear. This morning when I left for work the message readout appeared again. I shut the truck off and started it again and it did not appear. There are no other lights (check engine, service engine, etc?) on. I read the manual and it say it could be one (1) of three (3) things: ? Low oil pressure ? High engine temp ? Low fuel All of these gauges are normal (exactly in the middle between L and H), and I filled up on gas this past Friday.

Go to Autozone or Oreillys for a free scan. The message will erase after 20 or 30 startups and it will be harder to diagnose. You mention 3 gauges- if you have a water temperature gauge it will start out cold (zero value). If you have just a light indicator it can still be the gauge your onboard system is trying to tell you about.

You may have corrosion at the plug-ins for one of these sensors. But try the free scan and see what it shows.

What if anything else could this problem be other than the pcm?


Check for a fuse under the hood, I seem to recall there was some issues with the fuses getting corroded and causing odd issues in Durangos. Just can't recall the years that had the issues with the fuses. When you get to the fuse, inspect it really good.

My mph, gas, and temp gauges are not working


That's why you don't let you husband work on your car ! Unless he does it for a living .. For MPH there is a VSS - vehicle speed sensor , for the gas there is a sending unit in the fuel tank, for the temp. gauge there is a temp. sensor located in coolant stream on the engine .You more then likely need to have you instrument cluster repaired . GM had a problem with step motors inside the instrument cluster . A step motor is what controls the individual gauge. The sensors are all inputs to the PCM - powertrain control module (engine computer ) .
Engine Coolant Temperature Gage
The IPC displays the engine coolant temperature as determined by the PCM. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM indicating the engine coolant temperature. The engine coolant temperature gage defaults to C or below if:

The PCM detects a malfunction in the engine coolant temperature sensor circuit.

The IPC detects a loss of class 2 communications with the PCM.

Fuel Gage
The IPC displays the fuel level as determined by the PCM. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM indicating the fuel level percent. The fuel gage defaults to empty if:

The IPC detects a loss of class 2 communications with the PCM.

When the fuel level is less than 14% (84ohms), the low fuel indicator illuminates.
Odometer
The IPC contains a season odometer and a trip odometer. Momentarily press the trip select/reset switch in order to toggle between the season odometer and the trip odometer. Press the trip select/reset switch for greater than 1.5 seconds, while the trip odometer is displayed, in order to reset the trip odometer. The IPC displays the vehicle mileage and trip mileage as determined by the IPC. The IPC calculates the mileage based on the vehicle speed information from the PCM. The odometer will display 'error' if an internal IPC memory failure is detected.
PRNDL Display
The IPC displays the selected gear position as determined by the PCM. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM indicating the gear position. The PRNDL display shall flash all gear positions if:

Speedometer
The IPC displays the vehicle speed based on the information from the PCM. The PCM converts the data from the vehicle speed sensor to a 4000 pulses per mile signal. The IPC uses the vehicle speed signal circuit from the PCM in order to calculate the vehicle speed. The speedometer defaults to 0 mph (0 kph) if a malfunction in the vehicle speed sensor circuit exists.
Tachometer
The IPC displays the engine speed as determined by the PCM. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM indicating the engine speed. The tachometer will default to 0 rpm if:

It could have went out, but you might check plug, or grounds. If just the odometer and speed quit, you could have a bad vehicle speed sensor in the transmission

After disconnect and reconnect the battery of my opel antara, the indication of odometer displays only 888... for all indications. How can i reset it?

Vehicles without tachometer are equipped with a cable-operated transmission range indicator.
Instrument cluster is equipped with the following warning lights:
Battery voltage.
Cruise (speed control).
Door ajar.
Fasten seat belt.
Lift gate ajar.
Low fuel level.

I recently bought a 96 dodge caravan. The guages are not working. I the fuse is good could not find any disconnected wires. When the ignition is turned on the guages jump. Could the problem be the ignition...


Check and Reseat every fuse you can find, on-by-one. It's amazing how often this does wonderful things. ;)
Make sure your battery is good, and has a good charge and good connections. The gauges are all computer controlled, and computers don't like iffy or dirty power.

But, the most likely culprit is the BCM (Body Control Module), although I've seen this caused by bad solder joints on the gauge cluster connector itself.

This can also be cause by a bad PCM or TCM power/transmision control module), but if the van starts and runs, it's very unlikely.

A quickie test for bad solder joints that works about 3/4 of the time is to simply whack the dashboard above the gauge cluster with the engine running. If the gauges jump, (not just wiggle a bit) it's likely you have bad solder joints.

Try holding down odo trip and reset buttons on the gauges. Turn the key on while holding them down. If nothing happens after 10 seconds, it's probably BCM, but still could be bad solder joints.

If you get 'codes', then there is hope to narrow it down:
110=Cluster mem fault
111=cluster calibration fault
905=no TCM comms
921=odometer fault from BCM
940=no PCM comms
999=end of tests/codes
chec-0 will dim the display
chec-1 will move all gauges through their entire range
chec-2 is odometer light test

When you see chec-3, keep your foot on the brake and move the gear shifter to each gear, give it a second in each position while you watch the display.

Also, if you have a compass/trip computer overhead, I've seen them cause problems. Disconnect that console and try again.

This is if the cluster lighting still works, but the display is blank. Don't know if you mean the gauges in the cluster do not work.

unfortunately, the car's BCM or body control module is bad. only a dealer or repair shop that can program it(which is very few) can perform this repair
