Question about 2003 Ford F350 Super Duty DRW SuperCab

1 Answer

I have a 2003 Ford F350 with the 6.0L and it just died while driving and will not start. Cransk fine with plenty of battery power. I pulled the oil filter and the housing was pratically dry. I also hooked our scanner to it and pulled no codes. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If the oil filter housing was dry as you stated i would look to replacing the Oil pump....oil pan has to come down, may be a large job depending on what is in the way of removing it from the bottom.
If you meant the gas filter housing was dry I would tend to look at fuel contamination or a bad fuel filter and or fuel pump.

Thanks for your reply. I will look for a port to plug a manual pressure guage in and check for oil pressure. I know with the 6.0l there are so many different directions to go with this situation.

Ok Rich i seee that your prob. was oil, if you have sludge build up you may have a pick up tube clog as well, depending on how many miles you have on the engine and how often the oil was changed?
Also look at the timing chain to be certain you dont have a sheared sprocket not alowing the oil pump drive to turn during cranking.

Hi Roger, Sounds to me as if you may have a problem with the anti theft unit in your vehicle. A diagnostic scan would help greatly to pin point the problem. Regards John

The engine stopped while driving on 2003 Ford escape. Oil light, check engine light and the battery light came on

oil, check engine and battery will always be on when the engine is dead--because there's no oil pressure, nor battery charging. A faulty oil pressure sending would never prevent the engine from starting. You'll have to tow it to a shop to find out why

I have a 2003 Eddie Bauer edition of the Explorer. It ran fine until the battery dies from the back hatch being left open. We replaced the battery and it ran fine for a while again then the battery died....

Sounds like the alternator is shot. The alternator charges the battery when you re driving and also gives power to the engine and accessories. If this dies the car will run on battery power until it dies.
