The sarter motor must be taken out and checked out well as it seems that the sarter motor bush/bearings/pinion wheel and be worn out. The noise is the wrong aligment of the pinion to the flywheel and it gets worse when the starter bushes wear off.
Also the cranking speed will be dragging as the load is high and with a good starter the cranking will be smooth and faster.

VW golf battery replacement - horn/alarm going off when reconnecting.

I suggest you try inserting the ignition key and turning the key to the fully on position before connecting the new battery. Ensure the door is left open.

If the alarm still sounds then starting the engine or attempting to start it might cancel the alarm.
Reading the vehicle handbook could provide more information.

How to diagnose vehicle will not start. Turn key and makes a click sound heard from dash or under hood.

Sounds like possible low battery. Could also be bad connection in starter switch, but test the battery first. Batteries do get old and don't hold charge. Check charging system, too.

I have a 2001 grand am it starts and shuts off?

Sounds like you may have a security lockout. Try the relearn procedure.

PASSLOCK 10 MINUTE RELEARN

AUTO LEARN
Time required, approximately 10 minutes:

1. Insure that the battery is fully charged.
2. Use the scan tool in order to clear the DTCs.
3. Turn the ignition switch from the OFF position to the CRANK position attempting to start the vehicle. The vehicle will start and then stall.
4. Leave the ignition switch in the ON position while observing the security indicator.
5. When the security indicator turns off, which can take up to 10 minutes, turn the ignition switch off. Wait 10 seconds.
6. The BCM and the PCM will learn the new code on the next start attempt.

2001 chevy blazer turns over but wont run. new fuel pump, new fuel filter, door switch ok,have gas and pressure at manifold, have spark, runs for a second with the help of starting fluid

Try to do the crank relearn:
Ensure that your battery is fully charged before attempting the relearn procedure. Do not leave any battery charger or jumper cables attached to the battery. Close the hood completely. Some applications require that the doors remain closed during the procedure.

1. Rotate the key to the start position to attempt to start the vehicle (the vehicle will not start).
Allow the key to return to the all position (same as if the vehicle would have started). The theft system light will flash (or stay lit) on the dash for approximately 10 minutes.
2. When the theft system telltale stops flashing (or turns oft) turn the key to the off position for 5 seconds and then attempt tostart the vehicle. The vehicle should start on this cycle.
3. Once the vehicle is running, the password relearn is complete.

4. Repeat steps 1 through 3 two more times for a total of 3 cycles/30 minutes.
5. On the next cycle of turning the ignition key from off to crank the vehicle should start
6. Once the vehicle is running, the password is learned and this completes the cycle.
7. Clear any DTC's with a scan tool if necessary. DTC history will be cleared after 100 ignition cycles.

Truck wont turn over hear a clicking sound

Assuming your battery is fully charged it sounds like a starter.

The click you are hearing is the solenoid switch on the starter (basically a relay). Turn the key on and off a few times while someone give the starter a good few wackes with a piece of wood or other hard object. When it starts to crank over hold the key in the start position until it starts....then drive to the parts store and buy a new starter.

Cheers,

Kevin

Engine will not start

That Clicking Sound is Coming from the Starter. First check the Starter Relay. It should be in a Fuse Relay Box under the Hood. If this is good, The Problem will be the Starter and will need to be Replaced. Also Check the Tension on the Belt. If the Belt is even a little loose it will not allow the Alternator to Charge the Battery and will cause a Not Start. Let me know what you find out. Even with a fully charged battery, if the terminals are oxidized, you will have a "break" in the connection when the electrical demand is high (starter draws more than just about anything else in vehicle)
Before worrying about anything else, remove the battery leads and clean them (both on battery and inside surface of cable ends. This cures over 80% of most starting problems and MUST be done before any further testing, or values obtained for tests will be inaccurate.
