My 2003 cadillac cts wipers wont shut off. I have been told to unplug the wiper switch to see if this stops them. How do I go about unplugging the wiper switch? Is this easy, please describe how.

so it is not just the switch? What makes you think that there are wiring problems? Is there history of this? Also, what is the procedure for getting the wiring checked out? Any recommendations on what to ask for at a mechanic?

I have a 2003 cadillac cts. The wipers do not shut off unless i pull the fuse. The switch still controls the wiper speed but when i turn it to the 'off' position, the wipers stay on low speed. I have been told a couple different things...replace the wiper motor, replace the wiper switch....can you please let me know, in detail, what you recommend. Also someone has told me that the car could go up in smoke if not taken care of soon, is this true?

Ok thanks. I also had one more question...I had to recently replace my two rear power window motors on this same car. Could there be any correlation between the two problems or is this just common electrical issues for an older cadillac? Any info you can share on this is greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot

Hi, this is a very common problem with the Cadillac cts, and all you have to do is to replace the wiper motor.
Unplugging the wiper switch is somehow difficult because it is behind the dash board which will not be easily accessible to you. So best is to replace the wiper motor once and for all...

JD,
To me it seems that the wiring is short circuiting some where. Please check and rectify it as someday the car may go up in smoke. This is important as it is a cadillac. Please get it done fast.

    JD,
With more info given by you on the problem at hand, it seems that the switch is at fault. Since you can vary the speed from the switch, only you cant power it off. So, I conclude that the switch is faulty and needs a change. The switch is shorting within itself.

There could be a defect in the windshield wiper/washer module or the wiper switch.

Wiper oes not shut off why?

-possibly relay stuck in "ON" position. Unplug the relay and plug back to position. If it still on then replace new relay.

Good Luck

2003 cts cadillac/ window wipes start when they want .

The problem is you don't know how to use it. Try and flick it right back to get it out of the intermittent mode. Also when you turn the wipers on it will stay on unless you turn it off, it's like a light bulb..

Wipers won't shut off

Hello,

Based on the year of your car, i do not believe your motor is not working properly, I believe your problem is in your switch. Now a days they have multiple controls in the same control piece to run different things, like same control lever will control, the washer fluid, wipers, delays etc... What happens is the contacts get worn, and it is not triggering the relay in the motor to shut off. Where the connecter connects into your wiper motor, some times that get corroded or not a good connection. Lot of them have a inline fuse not just for the power supply to the motor, but also to trigger the relay to have it turn off. I would first trace all in line plug connections that go to the wiper motor, unplug them and then look at them, make sure there clean, and plug back in. If you are convinced it is clean and all connections are good, and still does not shut off, then if not the switch itself, them the motor itself has contacts/relays, that could be worn, to not trigger to turn motor off. First place to check, and have looked at with a tester of going on and off (power) is the switch. Wiring problems are a pain in the **** to locate and find. But this should give you a place to start. I hope this helps some. Thanks Mike

Wipers will not turn off...

Do you turn them on by throwing a lever or by turning a dial?
It seems that the switch that controls the wipers may be stuck open.. (metal contacts not seperating)

Windshield wipers won't turn off

All parts with the exception of the wiper switch are built into the wiper motor. Check with a Cadillac dealer for a cover kit that had the circuit board built in for your wiper motor

03 cts cant shut off wipers or adjust speed

Take it to dealer unless you can replace the wiper switch assembly yourself, a sure test is using a circuit tester. also tighten the motor housing if the nuts are loose usually GM uses 3 nuts, other wise take it to the dealer, they have the Technical Service Bulletins on your car, the non-dealers may not have them or have no clue or plain give you a false statement that they give you like a you don't have a clue, if so time to walk out and not return.
