It sounds like you have a loss of oil pressure in the branch tubes or leaking past the fuel injectors. Just 1 bad o ring can cause this. The injectors are oil pressure driven and when longer starting takes place it is taking more time to build the pressure it needs to start pumping through the injectors. Very common on 6.0

I have a 2001 f250 7.3L turbo diesel. The truck starts and runs for about 100 to 200 feet and then starts to rough idle and dies, after turning the engine over for about 10 to 15 seconds it will start and...

Sounds like you may have a high pressure oil leak, if you check the oil resevoir level before you start the truck you may find it low or empty. Its located at the front of the engine in front of the fuel filter housing, there should be a threaded plug you can remove to look in, if its empty or looks low, fill it up with the proper oil and put the plug back and try it then, if its ok now, you likely have an oil leak, typically failed o-rings on one or more injectors. You can buy injector o-ring kits but its a fairly involved job, I am a Ford Diesel tech and it usually takes me about 3 hours to replace all the o-rings on all 8 injectors, first time for someone who's never done it will probly be closer to 5 or 6 hours.

2005 f350 that sometimes starts.Problem seems to

This is a diesel I assume.

Before anything else, you have to find out if it is a fuel delivery problem or a glow plug problem or, are your batteries tired? (Not cranking fast enough) Batteries have to be replaced every 3-5 years on a diesel.

1) Check your lift pump. It brings the fuel to the injection pump. It should make a buzzing noise when working. (You can feel the vibration if you put your hand on it.) It should buzz as soon as the key is turned to the on position without having to crank the engine.)

2) Check glow plugs. If the wait light only goes on for two seconds, then your glow plugs are burning out. (The wait light usually is on for at least ten seconds. Longer if it's really cold.)

3) Or the injection pump itself is weak. (Hopefully it's not this, as it can be very expensive to replace. We only want to do this as a last resort.)

My 2005 6.0 diesel f250 takes a little longer to fire compaired to the new diesel motors, how long is it supposed to take? or am i having a relay problem?

If you are talking about the new ford ford 6.4 diesel or cummins or duramax, it will take a little longer. They are common rail and pressurize the diesel directly with a pump, the 6.0 uses high pressure oil to pressurize the diesel in the injector. Because of the extra step it can take longer to start the engine.

Fuel problem, wont start

the pump is part of the filter/separator not in the tank no fuel will come out if filter is removed make sure there is fuel in the upper filter if there is the pump is ok it might be an oil pressure concern

Hard Starting in morning

Do mean you have hard time communicating with a scanner at the OBDII connector, if so make sure you power at pin16 at diagnostic connector, also we have seen issue with glowplugs not working properly causing hard start when cold and starts fine after warm-up
You can check for glowplugs operation at initial key-of before cranking by checking for voltage at each glowplug connector with a multimeter.

It is possible that some of the glow plugs might not be working. This will cause a hard start and smoking condition especially in cold weather.
