Question about 1992 Isuzu Trooper

After replacing the speed sensor (H313303) in my 94 trooper, 3.2L SHOC, the speedometer still fails (may work intermittently but can't corolate to bumping, tapping instrument cluster, or anything else) to work & check engine light may come on, so now what?

I disagree with "the only thing left" statement, there could be a variety of things to check: instrument connections, plugs, ECM inputs, outputs, ect. Iv'e chacked the sensor wiring, already used contact cleaner, & have "wiggled the harness under test to verify there is no discontinuity at that point, however, I NEED TO KNOW WHERE THE SENDER SIGNAL GOES NEXT! that is my next question.

Voltage at sender is 14.8 with about 6 Vac of signal, which appears good & stronge...

Thanks you so much! Then I'll get into the instrument panel this weekend. I bought a chilton manuel but the '94 trooper schematic does not even show the vss sensor, so I couldn't trace it, so this is great info! thanks again. Geoff.

well, it may not be necessary as engine light goes out as soon as speedo starts working again & may stay off as long as breaks are not applied ( as speed sensor also goes to abs breaking system) when speedometer quits again. intermittent nature dosn't seem to be related to bumping or tapping either. does the sensor out put lead go to the speedometer / instrument cluster next?

The speedo's gearing is faulty.
You must replace the cluster itself.

Thanks!!

The only thing left that would explain the check engine light also - the sensor's wiring: check it for fraying, check the connectors for fit and status (dirt or corrosion might be involved).

The voltage is exactly what it should be at the sensor. The signal goes directly to the speedo and from there to the ECM. There's only a single contact in between them - the one on the instrument panel.
As i said check the wiring, right up to the ECM and the speedo, apparently you have a bad connection somewhere.

Yes. As i said just check the wiring.

Transmission speed sensor

You could have a faulty speedometer/odometer combination meter causing a false Vehicle Speed Sensor error.
My 1998 Sienna had the following symptoms:
- Speedometer and odometer failed intermittently
- The check engine light would come on and I would get a p0500 code in the OBDII.
- The cruise control would stop working at the same time the speedometer failed.
There is a speed sensor in each one of the tires and they feed the speed information to the ABS ECU. From the ABS ECU the speed signal goes to the speedometer/odometer combination meter, and from there it goes to the Engine Control Module and to the Cruise Control ECU. I could see a signal coming into the speedometer/odometer, but no signal going out. Replacing the speedometer/odometer combination meter fixed the problem.

Blinking d4 light with intermittent speedometer

Usually it means the speed sensor in the transmission is failing.
The blinking light means your overdrive may not work.

Sppeedometer works intermittantly

If the vehicle speed sensor was the cause you would have a check engine light and the transmission would have sifting issues into overdrive, I would think you just have a failing tachometer stepper motor (tiny DC motor) that drives the needle..

THAT SOUNDS MORE LIKE THE VARIABLE SPEED SENSOR! IT IS LOCATED ON THE TRANSMISSION! SOME OF THEM HAVE A SPEEDOMETER CABLE ATTACHED TO THEM, AND SOME DON'T! THEY WILL HAVE A 2 WIRE PLUG THAT IS ATTACHED TO THEM!

Speedometer works intermittently

hi, sounds like the vehicle speed sensor mounted on the transmission is going bad or loosing signal. generally, honda speedometers work for life, i've only ever replaced one. now, this is a split year so it may have just a cable going to the transmission instead of an electronic sensor. if the cable is loose, this may also cause this issue. you should probably have a professional shop take a look as the speedometer cable/sensor is very buried in the back of the engine compartment under the air intake hose and behind the starter. also, if there is a check engine light on when the speedo stops working, this should be an easy diagnostic for a technician to do, it would likely be the speed sensor causing this engine light.

'92 Isuzu Trooper speedometer problem

Replace the speed sensor located on the transmission this sends the signal to the speedometer, you may want to check the plug and its terminals to be sure the terminals in the plug are not corroded if they are clean the terminals with electrical contact cleaner then drive the care see if cleaning the plug fixed it if not replace the speed sensor.

When should you replace the speed control sensor in the transfer case of a 1998 ford explorer

it is not a speed control sensor it is a speed sensor. it needs replacing when it fails. the problems to look for from it failing would be intermittent or no speedometer or cruise control kicking in and out. these sensors do not fail very often they are just a prox switch picking up metal tabs on a ring as they pass by the end of the sensor
