i just had a transmission service performed on my car and they used havoline mercon/dexr.atf i have had this problem for awhile now. after we travel 20 miles or so it will start acting up. used to be that if you shut engine off and then restart it it wouldn't bother for a few months.the car has 89000 miles on it. now it is bothering all the time if car gets warmed up. if i just drive it 5 miles to work fine, then back home at night 5 miles it's o.k. but if i drive over 10 miles at time it will start bothering

Most modern transmissions are very particular about the Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) running through them. Modern cars also require that the fluid be changed more frequently or problems with shifting can occur. Some cars require an ATF change every 30,000 to 40,000 miles. Make sure the correct automatic transmission fluid is used and do an ATF change . If you notice a big improvement consider a second ATF change in 1 or 2 thousand miles. Dirty or worn ATF can really affect how your car shifts.

I have had three different cars that the double ATF change worked beautifully on. Since the car doesn't act up in five miles , but does act up in ten miles , it sounds like (as the transmission reaches operating temperature) an electrical sensor is acting up. But only when it gets hot.You may contact a dealer to see if they can check which one is bad by running a diagnostic.

One more thought, If you don't mind resetting the radio, you could try unhooking the battery to see if it will reset the system back to working correctly. This trick works with a lot of modern stereo's , TV's , and electronics that like to go on the fritz for no reason at all.

2005 ford focus code P0767 shift solenoid D circuit stuck on

Possible causes - Low transmission fluid level - Dirty transmission fluid - Faulty shift solenoid 'D' valve - Shift solenoid 'D' valve harness or connectors - Shift solenoid 'D' valve circuit is open or shorted
When the a transmission solenoid is stuck on, in most cases the problem is not the electrical part of the solenoid; the problem is foreign material obstructing the mechanical function of the solenoid or the flow of the fluid through the transmission valve body. If the transmission fluid is very dirty, it is recommend changing the transmission fluid and if possible removing the transmission pan for further diagnosis. Excessive debris or metal particles on the transmission pan could be an indication that there is a transmission mechanical failure and that the transmission will need to be rebuilt or replaced

''04 Buick LaSabre, Transmission rough shifting. Are pressure control solenoid and shift solenoids internal to transmission?

The solenoids are internal ! But if it were a solenoid problem the check engine light would come on . There are a lot of variables involved in the shifting of electroniclly controlled transmissions , it's all part of the engine management strategy programmed into the PCM - engine computer . I would take and have it checked before guessing about parts problems . A good qualified repair shop would hook up a professional grade diagnostic tool and road test the vehicle . With-in a few miles they would know for certain .

2004 cavalier transmission rough shift

That intermittent rough shift would be caused by the computer.Disconnect the ground post from battery for a couple of days so the computer will reset back to OEM specs when recharged after the battery is re-connected.Computers just need time to "forget"what they were doing and will reset.

Can a bad thermostat cause a transmission not to shift properly in a 2002 chevy impala?

It is absolutely possible for this to be the case. When the thermostat is not reading the temperature of the coolant properly, the engine ECU or computer will sometimes not allow the transmission to shift either correctly or at all. I have a ford ranger that will not shift into overdrive on cold days until the engine has gotten up to a warmer temperature. This is because the ECU is limiting the transmission from shifting into overdrive while the thermostat is still registering cold temperatures. Now if the transmission is shifting rough or randomly, that could be another problem like a shift solenoid inside the transmission. But as far as your original question, yes a bad thermostat can definitely be a possible reason for a transmission not shifting "normally". Hope this helps.

97 cavalier starts and runs ok from a cold start after a few minutes of warm up it starts to run rough and miss. If i try to drive it it will start out ok but won't shift automaticly but shifts fine m

Sounds like possibly more than on problem, crankshaft position sensor, or ignition module likely on starting prob which maybe affecting shifting due to hard code in ecm, or shift prob could be shift solenoid in valve body of transmission. Both parts readily available from local parts store

Shifts rough in 1st gear and lose overdrive at times

on the older style blazers the fan clutches did fail and would often be misdiagnosed as shifting problems as the clutch engaged and disengaged.... also a hard 1-2 shift can be due to your vehicle storing a transmission fault code in the ecm... some transmission fault codes will put the transmission into a fail safe or limp mode in which it engages high line pressure .... this can cause your hard 1-2 shift and will feel normal most of the time other than that. high mileage on the transmission fluid may also require it to be flushed and have the filter kit replaced

Sounds like you need the updated engine computer for harsh shifting. Look up under the glove box at the computer. Number should be 89661-02K21 if not, you need the update. It is an 8/80 warranty item.
