My 2002 Saturn L100 odometer stopped working and isn't clocking miles at all.

The odometer is an electronic digital display. Digits displayed are illuminated by the odometer backlight bulb. The odometer backlight bulb brightness is controlled by class 2 messages from the BCM to adjust the display for daylight and instrument panel dimming operation. The trip odometer and total odometer will show in this display area. The push button in the lower right side of the speedometer is used to toggle between the trip and total odometer readings. To reset the trip odometer, push and hold the button down for at least two seconds. The total odometer display has six digits with no decimal display. The trip odometer has four digits including a decimal point and indicates tenths of a mile or kilometer.
The body control module (BCM) stores the vehicle mileage. If the BCM fails, the cluster will display the last valid mileage that was sent before the BCM failed. For replacement of the BCM refer to the BCM section of this service manual. Replacement instrument clusters do not require odometer pre-setting before installation. If the instrument cluster is replaced, the mileage stored in the BCM will be sent to the new cluster via serial data, and shown in the odometer display.

Your best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop.

Dash board speedometer, rpm gauge and all other instruments turn off. If I beat on the dash sometimes it all turns back on, but mostly not! Also when instrument panel turns off, door locks won't...

Sounds like the instrument cluster main wiring harness pins on the instrument cluster circuit board. How are you with a soldering gun? Just re-flow the solder on the 13 pins of the main wiring connector on the instrument cluster circuit board, and you should be fine. To get there, you need to remove:
- the lower dash panel under the steering wheel (5 screws),
- instrument bezel cover around the steering column (2 screws),
- instrument cluster cover (3 screws to my recollection),
- and then instrument cluster (4 screws)

If the problem returns or persists, then consider re-flowing the solder on the #331 resistor on the body control module circuit board - there is only one of these on the circuit board. To get the bcm out, remove:
- lower dash panel under steering column (5 screws)
- metal kick plate - 10 bolts and 1 screw (although not necessary, you can get more room by removing the lower metal dash bracket as well - 5 bolts)
- three 10mm bolts holding the bcm in place
- 2 wiring connectors on the bottom of the bcm
- 4 wiring connectors on the front of the bcm - You need to back off the connectors with a nut driver - they were either 11mm or 12 mm

- remove the metal bcm cover - 3 small bolts
- remove the circuit board - 4 screws
- use a magnifying glass to find the #331 resistor
You're probably best off replacing this resistor while you have everything accessible. (this is apparently the standard re-build fix for these bcm's) I didn't have a suitable replacement, so I just re-melted the solder. After re-installing everything, all my previous dash board gremlins disappeared.

Give yourself 2-3 hours (well maybe 4) for all this.

2000 Grand Caravan SE speedometer, fuel, temp, overhead not working, is it the BCM?

The first place to start would be removing the cluster the overhead and wiggling wires and connectors, also wiggling wires at the BCM and junction block. Checking all fuses. If you find nothing, then the most logical place to start would be the BCM, but only after all these other posibilities have been checked.

97 dodge caravan - has no instrument lights or the instruments don't work. Air & Heat work and lights, etc. Someone said it was one of 3 censors, but which one?

The dash cluster needs to be replaced. I fixed mine by re-soldering all the connections using a pencile soldering iron and a magnifying glass. It takes patients but it may solve the problem. The Cluster is fairely easy to remove. If you buy a used or new one it will have to be reprogrammed by a chrysler dealer at a cost. But the one in the van can be repaired and used again without the programming.

Instrument cluster inoperative, transmission shifting problems

These vans have had issues with the PIN connections to the instrument clusters. With time the solder on the main PIN connection will begin to fail. The good news this may be repaired at home. First you'll need to remove the instruments. To do so remove the dash components from around the instruments then the (4) screws) that hold the instruments in place. Carefully detach the wire connection from the back of it; take to a well lit area. Look for a PIN with a failed solder joint (this will appear as a slight black or grey circle. If found apply heat and let solder begin to flow; the allow to cool and reassemble. If you look at my history you'll see I've helped others with this issue. The attached link may help:

As for the transmission I expect this a seperate issue, possibly the BCM but I'd like to review further.
Please let me know if this assisted you,

Dash problem

This is caused by a problem with the BCM (body control module), do the following, if that doesn't reset the BCM then u will need to have the dealer replace and program a new BCM.

Open your hood and look for the fuse and relay center just above the battery. Open the cover and look for a fuse called IOD and/or Memory IOD. It usually located away from the front (towards the top of the block) in the center, they are labeled . Remove the IOD fuse for 20 seconds and then reinsert. The BCM becomes hung and this will reset it in a lot of cases. Let us know how it works out

the most common cause of the poblems u are having is the Body Contro Module (known as the BCM) is defective, it is all to common a complaint, I believe you must have the new module programmed so the dealer will have to get invovled.

the actual proble is in the BCM which means body control module, i will first check and make sure that all the grounding cables to this vehicle is tight and clean and if they areok and the problem continues it is time to get a new or rebuilt BCM.
