Question about 2001 Toyota Avalon

1 Answer

For last 3 days, had trouble getting key to turn, so I started trying to use the fob and press lock /then unlock t try and get it released. Now since i got to work this morning, I could not get it to release. With or without using the fob, all day and it is locked, I had to leave the key in with the fob attached cause a mechanic friend said it might "remember" it ?Then had to walk home. Any ideas!?

Not sure I am following your post but it sounds like you are having problems with the key in the ignition?

if this is true there it has nothing to do with your key fob

instead, the inability to remove the key from the ignition is because the tumbler is failing or failed

additional causes can be due to failing shift lock actuator

If however, you mean the door, then that is purely a lock solenoid concern, but I doubt that is why you walked home

Remote will not unlock doors can not unlock from inside

- Sit in the car with all the doors shut and windows up with your key fobs (all your fobs need to be done at the same time)
- With one of your keys turn the ignition on then off and remove the key
- Press and hold the unlock botton and then press the lock button 3 times.
- Release all buttons and the locks will bounce up and down.
- Repeat this with the other key/keys (press and hold unlock and press lock 3 times, locks will bounce)

Note: Only switch your ignition on once, doing so again while programming will reset the process and you will have to start again.

I don't know if this is procedure you followed? There is door lock receiver under the dash. The receiver sends message to bcm the bcm controls the door lock/unlock relays accordingly. Any applicable trouble codes?

Bmw 325 on a y reg will turn over but will not fire fault code pointing immobilizer fault anti tamper fault any ideas easy cheap fix thanks

Hi Mark you could try to see if re-programming the key might do it, you could also disconnect the battery for 10 minutes and see if it resets that way...to re-program the key this is what you do, please follow by the book or it wont work, this however is just a trial to see if it will do the job, if reprogramming the key does not do it, then disconnect the battery for ten minutes and then try re-programming of the key...
1, unlock the car with the key ( not fob) get in and shut the door 2, switch ignition on and then off ( do not try to run it just on then off) 3, remove ignition key 4, press and hold unlock button 5, press lock button 3 times quickly all within ten seconds keeping the unlock button pressed 6, release unlock button 7 ( if you have this type of key fob) the led will flash slowly for 10 seconds 8,( if you have this type of key fob) the central locking system will lock and unlock rapidly to indicate correct programming 9 ( if you have this type of key fob) repeat procedure if the led flashes constantly, or the locking system does not unlock and lock rapidly please follow as directed..if you have any problems understanding what to do, please contact me on email address s.e.morris@live.co.uk hope this helps

I just had a 2005 bmw 325i picked up by a towing company because the keys were locked in it. They used a slim jim to open the door and get the keys but now the car won't start.

you could try re-setting the key fob/remote by re-programming it, here is how
1,unlock car as normal with the key..not remote 2,get in car and close drivers door make sure all doors closed! 3,switch ignition on then off ( do not turn it over to run) 4.remove key 5,press and hold UNLOCK button ( do not let it go) 6,press LOCK button 3 times within 10 seconds (all 3 presses) 7,release UNLOCK button you should then ( dependent on model type) either see LED flash slowly for 10 seconds, or the central locking system locks and unlocks rapidly a few times to indicate a successful reprogram of the key, hope this helps

How do i programme a new remote fob for my 98 R Freelander

Programming a new Key
Replacing a missing master key is quite expensive from Land Rover, try not to get sucked into the extra cost of "Dealer coding" You can do this yourself in 2 minutes by following the simple process below.
1) Get in and close all doors. Turn ignition on and off quickly and remove the key (all within about 5 seconds).

2) Within 30 seconds of turning the ignition off, while holding down the "unlock" button, press the "lock" button three times. Release the "unlock" button. (You may or may not get the confirmation from the door locks.) Holding the key at your head level provides best results as the key sensor is in the side window pillar.

3) Repeat for each key you want to initialize within 30 seconds after the last one you initialized (if you have more).

4) Right after doing the last key, quickly put the key back in the ignition and turn it on/off again to finalize.

Key fob lights up but doesn't work even with a new battery

I'm more familiar with Range Rovers and Saab's when it comes to key fobs but if you changed the battery you have to re-program the key fob. If you do not have an owner's manual that can take you through the steps you might want to try: push and hold the lock button on the key fob, put it in the driver's side door and turn to lock. With the button still depressed turn back to open, remove the key and release the button. If this doesn't work check any and all fuses associated with your system and last but not least you could take it to a dealer. Good luck!

Key lock out use remote message on dash display of ranger rover

First try to re sync. the key with the car.
To re sync the controller, please do as it follows:
1: close the vehicle from the driver's side with the key!
2: Wait until the alarm is armed.
3: With the unlock button pressed turn the key in the barrel to unlock position, then back. Now release the button.
4: Now with the lock button pressed turn the key to the locked position, and back. Release the button.

Program a remote key for 03 A6

I have an A4 and did this to re-program my key:

1. used the key to start the car...then turned it off
2. put the key in the driver door (door closed)
3. pressed the lock button on the key fob once
4. turned the key to lock the door.

This is basically the steps in the owners manual, but the car must be started with the key first, and the key must be in the door lock before pressing the lock button.

Remote entry keyfob control doesn't work. Batteries are good.

Unfortunately theres not a lot you can do with them. If you are sure the battery is OK and the contacts are clean and it still doesn't work then a trip to the dealers to get it reprogrammed or replaced is in order.
Can you see any moisture inside? any chance you dropped it in the rain by accident?
If by any chance it has come into contact with moisture try drying it out somewhere warm but not hot as that may cause more damage.
