Could be a number of things. Whenyou turn the key to the on position, do you hear a noise coming from the gas tank? I would check this and the fuse (maybe relay too) before the next step. Could also be a fuel filter, Crank Position sensor, etc. Let me know what you find out.

The problems you are describing sound like a classic case of your fuel pump going out. If you replace the fuel pump You should solve your problem. I hope this helps you out.

1985 Chevy s10 2.8L every time I go above 25mph it dies. I have changed out the fuel pump and fuel filter. But the problem is still there. Any ideas. It is carburate. And the fuel lines look good

I would have the carburator checked/replaced because while the lines look good, it may not be giving the engine the right amount of gas it needs to do anything above 25.

The problem may be the gas that sat in the carburator. Gas goes bad faster in smaller quantities. Have a look inside to see if you have "gummed" up passages, or jets. Don't forget to change the fuel filter.
Good luck. (I have an 89, and it's a great truck, 300k miles on it.)

you must not add gas, you must drain all the gas from the tank and fuel pump and clean the carburator also the spark plugs. then put a new gas.

1985 300 runs to rich

Is it a Holly carburator? If it is and the choke operating correctly, then you have a warped metering plate in the carb allowing too much gas to go into the engine. Rebuild the carb abd check the plates for warpage before reinstalling them. There is also a power valve in the carburator that some times goes bad. Good Luck,

Carburator

Hi,

To my knowledge, the gas tank vent does not hook up to the carburator, it is just a means of escape for trapped air inside the gas tank, so normally it is just left hanging.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
