Question about 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche

1 Answer

I have a 2003 Chevy Avalanche and for some reason my inside oil pressure gauge just quit working. I stopped my truck to see if there was anything wrong, checked the oil level and it was fine. All other gauges in the dash are working fine.

Common problem on the 03-06 Avalanche instrument clusters, it's caused by failing stepper motors on the cluster's circuit board and it can be repaired. Check this page for more on how to get it fixed - Avalanche oil gauge fix

Why is oil pressure gauge dropping below 40 psi.

Usually two reasons why oil pressure drops over time, worn engine parts, old oil.Try an oil change with new filter I sometimes use an additive like Restore.Over time the oil will become thinner and less viscous leading to a drop in oil pressure.

Oil pressure drops to zero on avalanche

If there truly was no oil pressure it would make a horrendous rattle sound from not only the rods but especially the hydraulic valve lifters. It sounds like probably the pressure sensor or the wiring, or both are not reading correctly. The older Chevy V8's had the pressure sensor on the side of the block, under the exhaust manifold where it would just cook it and make it leak and not work right. I always kept a direct reading pressure gauge with hose and adapters in my tool box when I felt I couldn't trust the onboard gauge. Many times it proved the gauges and idiot lights wrong.

2003 chevy avalanche, oil pressure gauge is all the way up to highlevel. what to do?

Locate oil pressure sending switch on side of engine block(small black switch with one wire plugged onto it )kinda looks like a big spark plug.Unplug clean contact and plug back in.If gauge still not working need to replace switch.

Oil Pressure gauge stuck at maximum, coolant gauge stuck at maximum, speedometer erratic (either not working or working after startup)

The oil pressure gauge on my 2003 Avalanche reads "0" and activates low oil pressure warning. Oil level is OK and engine does not sound like one with with no oil pressure; AKA no knocks or ticking. The mileage is 50,000 on this vehicle any ideas as I with no gauge I am leary of driving it? Please advise!

My oil pressure gauge is bouncing all around on my 2003 Chevy Avalanche. It bounces from the low end to the high end and everywhere in between. Any idea what might be causing this?

Sounds like the oil pressure sensor. Thatt is the easiest thing to change. If not its the gauge. Put voltage to the wires from the switch and see if the gauge stops jumping and stays pegged, if it does its the switch Good luck

In my 2003 Chevy Avalanche the oil pressure gauge is going all the way to 80 and stays there. Where is the sensor on the engine? Any suggestions?

the sensor is located at the back of the top of the engine, behind the distributor. Could be the sensor or the gauge itself. Probably the sensor stuck.
