Do you know what this problem may be? An orange colored fluid has leaked from beneath the car, the temp gauge is shooting into the red and the "check gases light has come on.

Orange coolant is leaking from your vehicle ... get it fixed as soon as you can ... if you continue to drive your car, you will cause serious damage to it.

Locate AC drain line

ac drain pipes are on the passenger side front floor area (just about where your feet go) under car when cars heater core gets a hole in it lots of times antifreeze will leak inside car on floor try to get a small sample of fluid thats leaking out with a tissue or something (white In color) see what color fluid is ,see if fluid is slippery like oil or not (rub it between fingers)
Antifreeze= orange or green in color
Transmission oil = red or brown
motor oil = brown to black
washer fluid = Blue or drk orange
ac condesate= clear water (cold)

1998 BMW 528 recently replaced radiator, water pump & pulley temp gauge sat middle all good THEN 2 months after all this temp gauge goes past middle then dropped back to middle . Next day temp gauge...

It could be the thermostat but you need to check the fluid level and for any leaks (these could even be pin hole) first. If you have one of those infra-red temperature gauges you can check the temperature of the cooling system in the engine bay to double check. Generally the engine temperature should not go much about 90 deg C - this is when the electric cooling fans kick in - are these turning on?

The high temp gauge will max out and then back to normal. Also the heat will not work then kick in all of a sudden.

Let me guess...When the temp gauge goes hot, the heater goes cold, and vice versa? Check your coolant level first in the radiator (when the engine is COLD) and also in the overflow reservoir. ONLY use a 50/50 mix of coolant and water, using the same COLOR coolant that is already in the radiator (if it's green, buy green, if it's orange/red, buy orange/red). Next thing to have checked/replaced is the thermostat which is inside the cooling system of the engine. Finally, and the most expensive, have the water pump checked/replaced.

I would put my money on low coolant level in the radiator. As the engine heats up, the coolant will "surge" through the system as the water pump tries to **** air through the system due to low coolant level. If the coolant isn't flowing, the heat can't escape the engine block and it starts to overheat.

My low fluid light is on, my heat is not working properly, i have fluid leaking under my car not really sure what it is. i know it is not oil, or tranny fluid, think maybe water and coolant, but my coolant...

Low fluid light means check your coolant which prob whats on the ground. Depending on the rate of leakage fill coolant start try and locate leak sounds like a hose or water pump slow leak prob water pump fast leak hose good luck

How to check transmission fluid

there is no dipstick to check. there is a red fill plug located directly beneath the throttle body and exhaust crossover pipe. GM claims fluid doesn't need to be changed for 100k miles but if it were me I would do it every 50k. That way unless you have a leak at least you know it's full.

TRANSMISSION FLUID RED ALSO.SNIFF IT IF SMELL LITTLE STRONG ITS TRANSMISSION FLUID.ANTIFREEZE IS ORANGE COLOR.

1 Answer

Slight leak from bottom of radiator

Transmission fluid will be red in color. Radiator antifreeze will be a different color either lime or orange. Antifreeze has a slimy consistency while trans fluid is simply oily. Put a piece of cardboard under the engine to see if you can pinpoint exactly where it is coming from. Could it be condensation from the a/c? If so, that will be clear water.
