Question about 2004 Dodge Ram 1500

Open Question

The left trailer light is not working. I traced it to the Integrated Power Module( fuse box). The yellow wire is dead. The price for a new IPM is high and there is a 29 unit backorder right now with no promise date. I replaced the FMC(Front Control Module) on the side of the IPM with no results. I was told the built in relay in the IPM is blown. I would like to tap into the regular trucks lights and bypass the faulty IPM but I am not sure which wires to tap into. The shop manual states the Darkgreen/White wire feeds the left turnsignal but I get no voltage on it when signal tracing. Do I need a converter of some kind?

I have seen once before that the fuse box was bad on a 2003 Dodge 3500. I had power in and nothing out. We had to replace the box. Not cheap! Hope it is simple like a loose connection though. I think I had to pull the inner fender on the drivers side to access the bottom of the fuse box. Pain in the ****, but...

1. Check to see if there was any trailer wiring spliced in, underneath, by the back bumper, if there is or was splicing done you may have wires corroded through. Look for green color on the wires.

2. Check the bulb sockets. You have to open the tail gate to get to the 2 screws on the tail light lenses.

3. Make sure you have good ground at the tail lights.

Please get back to us if you have further query else please accept the suggestion.

The IPM (Integrated Power Module) shows cavity #11 is the 15amp light blue fuse which powers this outlet, I would check there 1st.
The module has a black cover that snaps off for inspection.

Where is the fuse box on the under dash?

There is no under dash fuse block in this vehicle, only the one under the hood. Here is the description from Dodge.

DESCRIPTION The Integrated Power Module (IPM) is a combination of the Power Distribution Center (PDC) and the Front Control Module (FCM). The IPM is located in the engine compartment, next to the battery. The PDC mates directly with the FCM to form the IPM. The PDC is a printed circuit board based module that contains fuses and relays, while the FCM contains the electronics controlling the IPM and other functions. This IPM connects directly to the battery positive through a four pin connector. The ground connection is through two other connectors. The IPM provides the primary means of voltage distribution and protection for the entire vehicle.

either bypass a new wire or trace back for break /connection, if it is anything like a dodge truck wiring it was much easier to run new wire to left turn, I don't know what the hell these engineers think, But im sure there is a reason and it is definately not for the cunsumer.

your vehicle has a "integrated power module". its a fancy name for a smart fuse box. What likely happened is there is a problem with the trailer wiring. The power module detected the fault and shut down the running lights. The power module will need to be reset at the dealer.

Fuse 15 is a 50 amp fuse for the park lamp relay
Fuse 32 and 34 are 10 amp fuses for the right and left park lights
Fuse 33 is a 10 amp fuse for the trailer park lights.

After it is reset I would not plug in the trailer until the fault is located and repaired.

I had a problem with my trailer light wiring, everything was working except one light, I used an OHM meter and traced from the socket back to the next joint and found I had a broken wire, I split the factory harness and repaired the wire, you may have the same problem, mine was under the truck left side above the frame

Trailer light problem

Check it with a test light. White-ground, Yellow-left turn, Green-right turn, Brown-tailights. Check it on the truck first. There are seperate fuses for just the trailer wiring in the fuse box under the hood. The Blue and Red wires are for Trailer brakes, don't worry about those.
