If I remember correctly it has somefhing to do with capacity. The best way to find out is check with a GM dealer to see if the part number for a 1993 is the same as a 1998

Have a 1993 2wd isuzu truck...from knowedgable friends they think my oil pump is bad...the truck sounds rough; almost like a diesel engine. i cant afford a $100 oil pump to replace and someone told me

To start with, I assume you have a warning light instead of an oil gauge.
You could check the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge.
The problem with low oil pressure can be the pump and also bad crank bearings. The bearings can be worn enough to loose most of the oil pressure before the oil gets up to the top of the engine.
The problem with pumping oil up to the top is it needs to be in the passages of the block to get to the crank and cam bearings, not just on the cam itself.
So even replacing the oil pump may not fix the issue.

Hello: You may have a stopped up radiator. A temp sensing heat sensor will tell you. Auto Zone or advance auto. Are you sure the head gasket is not leaking? Does coolant fill up the surge tank and bubble with engine running????

I have a 1998 gmc sierra and mt oil pressure gets low after engine warms up ive been told its my rod and main bearing but i think it could be the oil pump but im not for sure please help

Well, they may be right in saying that normal engine wear is causing this problem as the distance between the bearings and the oil passages gets bigger, the oil pressure drops.

If you want to spend the money on a new oil pump, you can, but there is no guarantee that will solve the problem.

You're right, the oil pump's passages might be wearing along with the rest of the engine causing this gradual low oil pressur problem.

Have you had the oil changed along with the filter to see if maybe there's a circulation problem in the engine?

I had low oil pressure on my 1997 Cadillac Deville Limousine, that was intermittently flashing the low oil pressure light.

I read that it's recommended to change the oil to the proper viscosity and that seemed to clear up my problem on my GM Northstar engine.

It's worth a try.

Good luck on this repair.

I have a Cdillac Deville 98 northstar. Getting an Error message - Engine overjeat, Change Engine oil, Check Coolant level and later I get Idle engine message I changed engine oil and coolant recently -1500...

Whatever you do, NEVER allow this engine to overheat and always use the correct antifreeze (DEX COOL) or you will damage your heads severly. The heads were made from aluminum so there is a very serious warping issue on the 1998 Cadillac Northstar engines. There should have been a recall but wasnt, ended up costing me 3 thousand USD to fix the engine problems I had but she now runs fine. I only had the car 4 months before this happened so someone prior to me owning evidentaly let it overheat on too many occassions and I had no choice but to fix cause I was still paying on the car!! Good luck

Overheating engine, no leakage, some white smoke when cold,

1 st drain the oil if excessive for it will just aggitate in the oil pan and it will not pump through the oil pump resulting in internal engine damage. The belt should be replaced every two years on any Northstar motor. A tune up is also recomended as well with high milage

1993 Cadillac Eldorado overheating

I am assuming you have the Northstar engine.

Check for coolant flow at the Purge line, this is a common problem on the Northstar.
There is a small diameter hose coming from near the top of the coolant tank, this is the purge line.
With the engine idling, pull the purge line from the tank,if there is no coolant flow from this small hose,it is blocked and this will cause overheating. If the hose is clear, check for blockage at the nipple on the tank.

Are you running it without a thermostat? If so,then strangely enough, this will cause overheating as the Northstar cooling system is different to most conventional systems and therefore will not help you diagnose the problem.
