Kia sportage auto 4x4heavy on fuel

This will be an intermittent problem with either the 02 sensor or the VGR valve. Both of these will not emit ant codes when in the intermittent stage of failing.

Air fuel mixture may be it. Also it could be a bad catalytic converter. Also the timing may be the culprit.

The malfunction VGR valve

Its an EGR Valve, thats exhaust gas receycler, it basically forces any unburnt fuel from the exhaust back into the engine to reduce the emissions output, you can clean this part and they sometimes are ok agaian, not always but certainly worth a try as a new one is about £90--£150 depending on the make.

Get some carb cleaner and blast it through clean the wire connection to it also.

When the engine light is on you will find it very difficult to get any power, and will really struggle on hills, you can repair this your self it's very easy.

If you need any help please let me know

I have a 1999 Ford Expedition 4.6 and I have cleaned carbon out of the ports going to EGR valve and replaced the valve, but the car still bucks between 40 and 50 mph.????????????????????????

you could have a bad valve or bad piston rings. Try doing a compression test. IF valve is bad you can do a valve job on it. If rings are bad you ahve to rebuild the motor. A compression gauge is about $30 or $150+ to have it professionally done. It is simple to do, takes about an hour

How to remove egr valve on 1997 lincoln towncar

The EGR valve can be replaced by using a pipe wrench, or a standard wrench to remove the fitting over the pipe going into the EGR valve... it's not too hard to replace, I've done it on mine myself... I have a 97 town car as well... the only problem is that my EGR valve was fine, but the computer told me it was bad... But I found out that the EGR sensor was bad, not the valve... now to replace the EGR sensor you need to remove the engine... FORD in their infinite wisdom decided to put the EGR sensor on the rear of the engine, half way down next to the firewall...

My mechanic said that as long as the car is running fine, I souldnt worry about the EGR sensor, its job is to tell me when the EGR valve is bad...

Hope this helps

VGR valve

sound like you are talking about the EGR valve there, car smells like gasoline is not burning right, when you look at the label under the hood you will see the vacumm system label next to the belt an automaker labels, it will give you the location of your EGR valve right in there

Engine service light

The DPFE (Diferential Pressure Sensor)sensor is usually mounted on the engine and is connected to the pipe that runs from the exhaust manifold to the EGR valve with two rubber hoses. When the sensor goes bad, the Check Engine light comes on and typically sets any or all of teh following fault codes: P0171 & P0174 (lean codes), and/or P0401 (insufficient EGR flow). Nine out of ten times, the fault is not a bad EGR valve or a vacuum leak, but a bad DPFE sensor. A replacement costs about $112 at Ford, or about $48 at an aftermarket auto parts store.I hope this helps.
