    HI SIR,

THANKS FOR YOUR RESPONSE. SINCE I AM NOT FAMILIAR WITH THAT PART CAN YOU GIVE ME AN IDEA OF WHERE TO LOOK FOR IT AND MAYBE A WAY THAT I CAN TEST IT PRIOR TO BUYING A NEW ONE? WHEN I USE A SCAN TOOL I HAD NO CODES AT ALL TO INDICATE ANY FAILURES. YOUR HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Check the Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor and Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor too.

Hi! Pretty much a PCM (powertrain control module) failure. The PCM has connectivity on all current that runs inside the car including the engine and transmission. Once the PCM is faulty everything else fails. No wonder the engine wont run. I strongly suggest that you have the PCM resetted or if its faulty have it replaced. You'll be good after the procedure. Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa!

Change the coil pack. This is a common problem. Good luck!

First of all please drain off the fuel and check if there is any impurities, water or of poor quality.
If so then the pump must be calibrated once again specially when warm( considering the age of the vehicle and mileage on it). This is to ensure that the pressure keeps up even when the pump is hot and teh repssure hold on even when the fuel density drops. THIS IS IMPORTANT.
Finally the test on the electrics must be done when the engine is warrm and in fault. Check if there is failure of spark in the hot engine as the scan result on a cool down engine will be good.
I am sure that the fault will be discovered oncce your angle of test changes.

Either the ECM has completely died (this explains the lack of error codes when clearly something is not right) or you have a bad connection that prevent the injectors from being fired - test that by putting a voltmeter on one of the injectors while someone is cranking the engine.

The voltage should be above 10 volts for the injectors to open.

  • gdgood11 Aug 30, 2010

thanks you sir.....and that's actually on the injector itself or at the wire connector?

  • Azrael SRL Aug 31, 2010

At the plug on the injector - you will need 2 fine needles to make the contact with the wires.

  • Azrael SRL Aug 31, 2010

In that case your only remaining option is to find a way to read the error codes - if necessary tow your car to a repair shop.

  • Azrael SRL Aug 31, 2010

If you have sparks that means the coil pack is in perfect condition - it can't be the cause of your problem. As i said check that the fuel is delivered by the injectors.

first check there is spark at the spark plugs, if ok check fuel pressure and fuel flow, if ok check injector pulse by holding while the starter is engaged. One of the above will be at fault.

2004 ford explorer will not start but turns over

For a no start , cranks over ok. be sure you have fuel pressure at the fuel rail first, before checking the injectors. There should be more that 40 psi at the rail... if not .. you might have a fuel pump problem. Even if you have fuel pressure at the fuel rail... the next thing I would check for,,, is spark !! Make sure you have spark at the spark plugs. The order would be... fuel pressure first and then spark , , then injector pulse. !! Then plugged exhaust.... then bad fuel then engine timing. The injectors have power to them all the time. The PCM controls the ground to the injectors. So you would have to monitor the ground side of the injectors. So checking injectors is kinda complicated. Hope this helps you. Good luck.

My 1998 honda civic died when i was driving it. It cranks but dosn't start it also makes a noice at the beginning could it be the fuel pump?

How many miles are on it? Did you have the timing belt changed at 90,000 miles? Is there spark to the spark plugs? Do you have fuel pressure at the fuel rail? A broken timing belt will make the car sound alot different than normal when cranking.
