Question about Suzuki XL7

1 Answer

Key sticks in ignition and won't turn the 1/4 turn to completely turn the car off. Takes 20 minutes wiggling jiggling, pushing in pulling out moving the wheel before it pops out. Can't go anywhere. I've had to leave the key in the ignition before with radio and everything off and use my remote to lock the doors. At first I thought my key was worn or bent but it happens with my never used spare keys too. Don't know if I need to replace the whole ignition, the key mechanism or what HELP!

My key doesnt move to the turn engine over position or the off position in my 03 trailblazer.

Sounds like the key cylinder is broken. Try jiggling the key & pulling it in and out while turning it. hopefully you can get it to move that way. But it sounds like you are going to need a new cylinder or a whole ignition switch

How can I get stuck valet key out of the ignition switch?

Have you tried turning the steering wheel back & forth?Even if its locked, you can still move it 1-2" which is usually enough to get the ignition key out.You can also try to squirt some graphite down into the ignition key lock cylinder, between the ignition key and lock cylinder key slot.Graphite is a powdered metal lubricant that comes in a small tube or plastic container. You can also try turning the key on,putting the transmission in neutral, rocking the car a little, put it back in park then try extracting the key.

Spray wd-40 into key slot, jiggle, wiggle key while turning steering wheel little bit back and forth, use pliers to push in and pull out gently. Good luck.

Ignition switch will not engage/push in/turn to start car

Disconnect your battery and try the key. If it works, the car has an electric lockout latch that is malfunctioning inside the lock. If the lock still won't turn with the battery loose, try wiggling the steering wheel (to relax the steering wheel lock pin) and jiggling the key. Either of these two wiggles making the key operate means worn out key or lock cylinder. Oh, also make sure the car is in neutral or park.

Ignition key won't turn

Sounds like new ignition switch is in order. I'm guessing you can't get in neutral? You've tried any other keys? Try some decent penetrant or graphite to unstick it then hit it with compressed air. If that doesn't work my guess is switch is hooped...not too tough if you're mechanical otherwise 20 to 30 minutes for mechanic.

Steering wheel won't lock, key won't come out

If the ignition normally only locks with the vehicle in park position, then check the switch on the gear lever mechanism is working.
If not, then you'll have to jiggle and wiggle that key out or replace the ignition lock.

Ignition locked

The ignition lock cylinder tumblers get in a bind all the time on GM vehicles. It probably has little to do with inseting the wrong key. Try inserting the correct key and "jiggle" the key in the lock. You may have to jiggle it up and down and rotate (or try to rotate) the lock cylinder forward and backward. It will probably work just fine if you can wiggle it with just the right combination. If not, you may have a damaged lock cylinder and you will have to replace it. - most likely nothing you did....I change at least two or three of these things every week...VERY COMMON.

The ignition key is stuck in my 2001 Toyota Corolla

The ignition on Toyota cars sometimes requires you to push the key down into the keyhole while turning it towards the 'LOCK' position.

If you have trouble moving it to this position, you can try turning the steering wheel at the same time, or jiggling the wheel left and right.

In case you are still unable to remove the key, you may have a defective ignition key cylinder, and this may need replacement.

Hope this helps.
