Power loss in range rover p38 4.6 lt when going up hill

the p38 is a bit sluggish and slow on long steep hills, really not geared for performance but more as a piece of heavy equipment. strong horsepower wise very formidable powertrain but you're not going to have that get up and go that many drivers look for. couple quick suggestions you may want to check your plugs and wires a common weak spot in the ignition system, and i might suggest also running i can of seafoam through your engine. you deposit in your gas tank runs through with the half a tank of gas. i'm not a big advocate of fuel additives or octane boosters but in the case of seafoam it's definitely a worthwhile and proven product. don't forget also your sport mode button down next to your shift lever push that button down and it keeps your transmission from overdrive so you can accelerate into freeway traffic and climb hills without your transmission shifting

Should i drive my mercury mountaineer in over drive on or off

Depends on what you are doing...

NEVER TOW in OVERDRIVE, you will burn up the Transmisison

Under normal Driving Conditions, leave it in OD (Overdrive), the vehicle will automatically choose the gear for you

If you are driving up and down Hills (Mountains) where it is shifting back and forth a lot, my own personal preference is to take it out of OD until I am going down the hills. I hate the shifting back and forth and prefer to keep the RPM's up in the 2200 -2350 range to maximize the engine....

Why does my transmission shudder at a stop and why does it have trouble shifting up?

A waste of time flushing the transmission fluid, the fluid lasts for the life of the vehicle and beyond!
I suspect oil pressure issues if electronic or slipping clutches if mechanical.
Take it in for service.

What does the A/T buttom mean on my 2000 mitsubishi Montero Sport Mean?

The A/T button is the power/economy mode which changes the shift points at which it up and downshifts. The A/T mode would be good for towing a trailor or a load inside the car up hill where you would want the engine to shift at higher RPMs so it would not be shifting so much back and forth everytime you go up and down a hill.

The shuddering sounds like you need your brake rotors turned or replaced, The wearing of your tires could be worn tie rod ends and that would make the shuddering even worse

TPS? Car studders at low speeds when climbing hills

YOU HAVE A TORQUE CONVERTER LOCKUP ISSUE, HAVE SOMEONE LIKE THE DEALER,AUTO ZONE OR IF YOU ARE HANDY CHECK FOR CODES, NO CODES....THEN TAKE THE CAR OUT STEADY DRIVE AT AROUND 45 MPH, GENTLY HIT THE BRAKE PEDAL JUST ENOUGH TO MAKE THE REAR BRAKE LIGHTS GO ON BUT NOT HARD ENOUGH TO STOP THE CAR...DO YOU FEEL THE CONVERTER SHIFT IN AND OUT EACHJ TIME THE BRAKE PEDAL IS TOUCHED MAINTAINING A STEADY 45 MPH SPEED, IF IT THAT SAME SHUDDER YOU ARE FEELING THE TORQUE CONVERTER NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, NOT AN EASY JOB AS THE TRANSMISSION HAS TO BE REMOVED TO GET AT IT.SORRY ABOUT THE CAPS.......
