Hi, ive got bad news for you, this is a clear sing your cylinder head gasket has gone and will need replacing the thermostat will also need checking along with the water pump as one of these failing could have caused the engine to over heat then this would have caused the head gasket to fail.

this is a big job and means your engine has got to be stripped down and rebuilt using new gaskets.

not for the faint hearted.

    It is also wise to insure your radiator is not leaking or restricted and your radiator fan is capable of proper operation.

Over heating problems


Hello,

when the car overheats, is there still water in the radiator?

If there is water in the radiator and the car overheats, then it means there might be some dirt or blockage in the radiator or condenser.

When the car is on the motion, air passes through the front and assists the fan to cool the engine. There are situation whereby air doesn't have free flow because of blockage in the radiator and condenser. Dust and debris can cause blockage. If this be the case, have your radiator washed thoroughly and cleaned.

If there is no water in the radiator when the car overheats, then there is a probably a leakage from the water pump. Or maybe your fan isn't blowing properly. The fan might be blowing weak air.

The above are what could cause your engine to over heat.

So start the check from the radiator. Poor water into the radiator, wait for some minutes, look under the car and observe if water is going to leak. If there is a leak, it might be from the water pump or a leaking hose.

If water from radiator has no leak, have your radiator washed and clean the condenser has they might block air that is suppose to cool the engine.

Also, make sure your fan is blowing properly or well enough to cool the engine.

Make sure you have the above checked thoroughly as they are the major causes of problems like this.

This overheating problem could lead to a burnt gasket and this can dry the engine oil which will eventually knock the engine. So have this problem fixed to prevent further damage that will cost you more money.

Lastly, remove the hose that connects the radiator to the engine, water from the engine will come out. Pour water into the radiator, the water will flow through the hose down to the ground. Do this severally. Now connect the hose back to the engine, pour water into the radiator. Start the engine, the water in the radiator will reduce, add more water till radiator is full.

In summary, the major cause of over heating problem is from the radiator, fan, water pump, blockage in the hose, and dirt in in/on the condenser. These are area you need to concentrate on.

I forgot to mention that the acceleration meter or engine meter on the dash board shouldn't be more the 5. It should be below 5. If it is above 5, it can cause overheating. I hope you understand what I mean.....

Will not blow heater hot when first started


I don't understand no cars have heat when first started. Lets try this engine cold take cap off radiator put in a thermometer like a meat thermometer it will read the temp of the water the antifreeze should be right to the top. Start the car and let it run when the upper radiator hose gets hot all of a sudden that is when your thermostat is starting to open it will read 180 to 195 on the thermometer it will fully open at 200 to 215 and the electric fan should be off till it is above 200. If the radiator hose feels like water is going through it right after it is started and the engine slowly warms up to about 100 to 120 and won't go above you have a bad thermostat replace it. My 2003 lancer over heated and won't start now.


too late, but the answer is: when the water system loses enough water, there is a sensor in the water inlet that tells the computer that there is no water, then the computer will not allow the engine to start, I check it on a radiator change I had to make a lancer 2006, we wanted to move the car a few meters but did not start because the hoses were not installed and the block had no water, so we had to start pouring water with a garden hose to the water inlet of the block and in that way started the engine.

Heating has stoped working and there is a little water in the oil, think radiator may be leaking, does my car just need a new rad


water in the oil will turn the oil brown like mud,is that what you see? if so,then you have a blown head gasket,do not run motor if this is the case as the motor wiil spin a crank bearing or lock up.are you sure about the water in the oil? look for real brown oil just like mud with bubbles on the oil dipstick. if the heats stopped working it may be because the radiator's low on fluid. look in the radiator for low coolant,if you can't see the coolant when you remove the radiator cap,it's low. with engine cool,remove the radiator cap 1st then start the engine. do you see steam and fluid blowing up frome the radiator? if so,you have a blown head gasket in the motor. head gaskets can blow and leak water into the oil or oil into the radiator. or blow and leak into the exhaust sysytem and blow coolant out of the tail pipe. three different ways for a head gasket to blow. usually the head gasket only blows when the engine has been run really hot!!! hope this helps.thank you for choosing fixya .com

The heater will not blow warm air until you start driving. The fan blows but its cold air. Once you start driving the air turns warm. Why?


There may not be enough coolant in the system. What happends is the heating core is nothing more than a small radiator inside the car. If the fluid is low the heating core is empty. But once you start driving the water pump works harder and fills it up. Another possible cause is a sticking thermostat. If its stuck open the engine cant retain water to heat it up. Thus blowing cold air. Whith the engine cold remove the radiator cap and check your coolant level. If it is full a replacement thermostat may be needed. HTH and dont forget to rate.

How to replace thermostat on


Do this when cool. Take radiator cap off, start the engine, turn on heat (not defrost) and now top up coolant to about an inch or 2 from top of radiator, as level drops down, and let vehicle run until the radiator fan comes on, then off, about 3 times, and add coolant as needed while it's running. After that, put radiator cap back on tight & make sure return bottle is filled to proper level. Now try that & see how heat is, temperature gauge etc, and keep an eye on return bottle level for a while. Let me know how it is.

Check to see if your water pump is leaking radiator fluid through the weep holes, or maybe a wore out drive belt. good luck.

Over heating and loss of coolant


Need to check your radiator flow, and thermostat, start the engine cold, with radiator cap off, watch for the water in the radiator, when it starts to bubble over let it, keep water hose close, radiator should blow back till the thermostat opens, the water will go down, and add more water if needed, and put the cap back on,,,, if your thermostat is stick closed it will cause over heating......and you may have to have it replaced.
