Question about 1991 Honda Accord

1 Answer

Hello- I have a Honda Accord LX 1991 and I believe the speed sensor has gone. I get a green flashing "S" light on and my odometer goes up and down and sometime does not work. Does this mean my car will stop running at some point or is it just a sensor that reads my speed.? I have brought over to Europe from Amercica this Honda and I hate to have to buy another part via USA. Please help me understand what this sensor does. Thank you. Cathy

Dear dj_ relly- My Honda does not stall. I have already changed the Transmission computer module a few months back. I just want to know if my car will still run normal without replacing the sensor. It is a 1991 and I am way over here in Europe. It has been starting to nickle and dime me...No one knows how to work on American Hondas here. I just wanted to know if it is safe to drive... What will happen if the sensor completely stops working.? Will the car still run okay.? Do I need to replace the senosr..? All your help is apprecaited. Thank you. Cathy

Dear DJ _Relly999- Thank you. That's what I wanted to hear. Over in Europe the police are not like in USA where they check your speed with speed gun.... So, I am good, I know what I drive day in and day out. Thank you. I was worried it might stop running. I have located the speed sensor and will replace some day soon. Do you have any suggestions of a parts house that ships internationally and is good price.? Thank you for all your help:-) Greetings from Hot, sunny Spain. Cathy

This is a reminder that you are almost due for an oil change, or other maintenance. It will soon turn red, it's determined by mileage driven since it was last reset. You can reset it just by inserting the car key into a slot, which I believe is under the tachometer. By inserting the key, it will reset to green. It actually isn't a light, just green, yellow or red that turns over like the odometer at specified mileage. Let me know if you have any trouble finding it. Curt

Does your speedometer work properly? if not, check your speed sensor. Many times the connection to your speed sensor may be left disconnected especially after clutch replacement.

Hi....

On your HONDA. the common problem is the Vehicle speed sensor .
I recomend get the car scanned with a diagnostic computer scanner.
Because the speed sensor malfuntion, will give a code and Afect the trans. with the performance.
The "D" light flashing is code refer to a transmission malfuntion.
But the code can be only for the speed sensor.
The AUTOZONE, ADVANCE and NAPA autoparts. they will scan your car without charge is just a Extra service that they give to the customers. If the scanner show the speed sensor code Just replace and the car will fine.

OK. I hope this help on your problem.
Thank you for use fixya.

Flashing green s on the dash

A green flashing "S" is similar to a check engine light. It is telling you that something in or on your transmission is not functioning correctly, such as the speed sensor or shift control solenoids. If it starts flashing and the speedometer stops working or the transmission shifts weird, take it to a mechanic.
