It's in Limp Mode - the ECM has detected a fault in the transmission and it has locked it to allow you to reach a repair shop with the car. Take it to a shop and read the error codes, they are going to tell you which faulty part has caused that.

I have a 1999 Chrysler 300M. Simultaneously, the Check Engine light came on, the speedometer stopped working, and the car doesn't shift out of 2nd gear. What's the likely problem?

these vehicles have alot of problems with the tcm( tranmission control module) internal failures of trans speed sensors. your car is currently in "limp in mode" to protect your trasmission!!!

My 300m is stuck in 2nd gear after changing the transnission twice

On the driver side of the transmission, there are two speed sensors. One monitors vehicle speed, and one uses info from the speed sensor to reference gear shift speed. Try replacing them before spending any big money. Its a do-it-yourselfer if you don't mind going under the car-they screw in. Be careful.

2000 300m shifts into 2nd gear and locks out all other gears. (limp mode) Changed speed odometer sensor, and have pulled #11 fuse, Checked wiring. battery cables removed for re~set. What else can be...

you replaced the output speed sensor, try replacing the input speed sensor, sometimes called the turbine speed sensor, thats where the computer gets the info to shift.

The engine overheated, now the car won't get out of 2nd gear. Is it electrical or mechanical? I used the manual and tried to Re-start, no luck.

Can be either or. Check the fluid in the transmission, if it is dark, then it is mechanical, and burned out 2nd gear. If the fluid is still clean, then look for a sticking shift solenoid.

Will not move from 2nd gear help PLEASE?

Your transmission is in a "limp in" mode. There are 2 sensors that need replaced. Total cost should be less than $100. I had it happen to me on my 99 300m. The sensors limit the speed to about 25 mph and the RPM rev's high. Just get the sensors replaced.

Sounds like the shifter cable is corroded to the point that it might snap. Replace the shifter cable. Best wishes to you.

you need to get the diagnostic codes to determine why its in 2nd gear (limp-in). it can be numerous things..anything from a input or output speed sensor to a serious internal trans problem.
