Question about 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier

1 Answer

2001 chevy cavilier, 180,000 miles on it. Drive the car for days and it's fine, then it looses power. Let it set for a while, and you might go another couple of miles. Let it set a week, and right know it is running just fine again. Has done this periodically for the last couple of months. Changed the external fuel filter, but hasn't changed anything yet.

My husbands 2000 model would stall while driving it. He said it made an electrical noise near the steering column. He had it to a chevy garage 3 times for the same problem. It would quit for a year and start again. They changed a sensor, and even a fuel pump which they charged $8oo for. Finally after several attemps my husband changed the ignion switch and it seemed to fix the problem. When he tore it apart he found what looked like melted wiring cover that had drained onto the wiring. When he first bought the car he a recall fixed ,some kind of pigtail in there and we wondered about that.Try this , The ignition switch:I think this might be your solution. It was fairly cheap and pretty simple to do yourself.

How do you turn traction control on and off on a 2000 chevy cavilier

try taking to a safe place with plenty of space to ride and stop. when it is wet or on gravel. accelerate and then try to stop moderately hard. if it turns on, it should be working fine. but, my guess is a hub bearing. do you hear and noises coming from either side of car during certain speeds or whenever you are making slight turns?

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome. Make sure you check the engine compartment. Check for burnt wires, loose wires. Check for large oil spots on the engine and under the engine. If it has a lot, there may be a major oil leak. Listen for any noises the motor makes while at idle. Check to make sure all the fuses are there. Check the oil, transmission fluid, coolant fluid, and power steering fluid. Check the front and back axle. Ask to test drive it and ride it hard for a few miles. Check out the brakes, check all gears. Feel for any stalling or vibrations. Check all things such as lights, signals, air and heat, headlights, taillights, and brake lights. Check radio and wipers.

3 things happened today. Have approx. 180,000 miles. Tranny started slipping, headlight went out, windows would not roll up. Crazy! Also ABS light came on as I pulled in to the driveway. HELP!!!!

Power ground not the 18 gauge wire the thick 12 gauge wire. For a 180,000 has it ever been rebuilt? Its time is giving out. On some model and years before VSS the ABS acted as a speed indicator to shift the gear but in you case ABS is seperate, you have a 2001 on down. the parts you buy will eventually be a whole car.

Hello all, I have a 2001 Chevy Suburban 5.3L with 133,000 miles on it. It starts up fine, I put it in drive, it doesn't move, put it in reverse, it backs up, put it back in drive and away we go. The rest...

trannsmission solienoids may be sticking, try some tranx, you can get at the parts store. this stuff is great. it might take a day or two but it works. for the other truck, did you have the front brakes checked, they can bind up, when you back up it frees them up.also, but not probable for 2001 check the brake hoses, they can collapse from the inside, not letting your brakes release all the way good luck
