Hi

ABS stand for Anti-Lock Braking System. It means thatthere is a malfunction in your car anti-lock brake system. Your abs light probably stays on because there is something wrong with your breaks. You need to get the abs system on your car checked by a mechanic.Your abs is shutoff by your computer until the repair is made. Perform a simple test. drive your vehicle and carefully do an emergency stop ,check if the abs works. if it does there's no problem that requires bleeding. Bleeding is only done if there is air in the system or if you are changing any part that would require you to disconect a hose or a line. you may have a pressure problem or simply a bad sending unit. to find air in the system just put pressure on the brake pedal if slowly goes down to the floor then you know you need to bleed the system.
Go to an auto shop and get the code read .
Let us know if you have something more to ask else please accept the solution.

Belt won't stay on, 1989 gmc 3/4 ton pickup

Not having the tensioner pulley lined up would do it.
All of the pulleys have to be in a straight line and the tensioner has to keep the belt tight, especially with extra load from one of the accessories.

I have 1998 gmc 3/4 ton auto . a.b.s light comes on intermitantly. when it does I also loose my full heater controls and cruise control. new brake switch has been instaled but c'ant see how that would

It is coincidence that your heater control went at the same time your ABS control went out. Try replacing the ABS control and see if that fixes it. Many times because of the electrical complexity you have to just start replacing things until you get it unless you own one very expensive computer.
Look for loose wires. Also try it in reverse if you like. Replace the heater control and see if that fixes it all. Also check ALL fuses.

ABS light won't go off recently had both front wheel bearings replaced on a 1999 gmc jimmy - the ABS light came on immediately during a test run, i told the mechanic about it and i was told it would...

There are ABS wheel speed sensors on the front wheels behind the hubs. It is possible if the hub where replaced either the pick up ring mounted to the hub itself was not installed or might have purchase non abs hubs or they just did not switch the wheel speed pickup ring on the new hub. Another thing could be either the wheel speed sensors are mis adjusted or when they replaced the hubs they hung the spindle by the abs wire and either pulled it out of socket or messed up the wires internally. Here is a basic abs system http://www.ehow.com/how_8511860_diagnose-abs-brakes.html if you have any other questions please let me know. Also please leave good feedback.

My 2001 gmc safari brake and abs light comes on . when I stop and restart the engine sometimes it doesn't come back on for a period of time

There's an intermitant fault in the ABS system, you will need a scanner to read the codes from the system.

ABS and break lights come on in my 2001 GMC truck while driving, I will shut and restart the engine and the light will not come for a few more days, what is the problem?

When your abs comes on then it's usually signaling you for new brakes or rotors. If you know you don't need new ones then it may be a fuse.

ABS and brake light comes on when truck is driven brakes are at 70% and work fine just lights come on on message center after truck is driven about 5 min's. truck is a 2001 gmc 1/2 ton sierra with 119k...

If you have recently bought new tires and the size is larger or smaller than the stock tire size, it will throw off the ABS as the computer thinks the tire is not running at the correct programmed rpm in relation to the overall truck speed. Check with a local tire shop to have it checked.
