Question about 1998 Audi Cabriolet

1 Answer

We purchased a 1998 Cabriolet that had been hit in the rear. The car has mostly cosmetic damage to rear deck lid etc.. The car goes in drive no problem, however it will not go in reverese. Are there any accident safety systems onboard that would prevent the car from going in reverse? We do not have the rear lenses all back together so the reverse lights are no hooked up, I can't image this would cause the transmission from going into reverse but I have seen odder things. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Any suggestions on where to by quality parts would also be welcome!! Thanks

The car not going into reveres has nothing to do with the smased rear but it may have bent the gear linkage or it could need to be adjusted,,,if the gear box was jolted hard,,,as for parts look on the net for car parts/brakers there are lots of them selling parts
or find a brakers yard near you who are braking you type of car up,,second hand parts are a lot cheaper than new parts

Your answer is unfortunatly no. The body style changed in 1997. The 1992 thru 1996 are all the same, the 97s and up are different.

No sound from new stereo

check the speakers in the rear deck, in the rear hatch or trunk, often the two wires that come out of the speaker touch if that happens it will short out the speaker drivers in the radio most times no permanant damage will occur. separate the wires so they do not touch,or touch the metal speker base, that may not be the problem but its a start..

Rear lid (houses top), opens only 1/4, stops, hums, and prevents roof from retracting in storage beneath lid.

As noted in one of the earlier questions on the topic, it appears (will verify for certain after the pump is removed) the plastic resevoir tank has cracked and the hydraulic fluid was lost. Leakage was visible in trunk once spare tire removed.
Audi also noted this is not unusual for a vehicle this age, and the replacement tank is a $100 kit.

I think it is for your rear trunk lid some cars refer to this as the deck lid. Close your trunk and see if this resolves
