It sounds like you have a misfire condition. It is probably time for a tune-up. Lexus recommends spark plugs at 60K and the timing belt replaced 100k for your 470. hope this helps.

That vehicle should have an OBD2 connecter for the check engine light, go to your nearest auto parts store and have them pull the code then go from there.... your better off that way you don't buy parts that you do NOT need. The computer will tell you exactly what is going on...... the reasoning for the check engine light to come on because there is a malfunction/problem detected

Bad vibration tends to go away when vehicle reaches 40 + mph.

My car sputs and makes a clicking sound when you drive over 40 miles


You can get a free scan at Autozone or Oreillys. If the "Check Engine" light is not on you may still have a defect recorded. It sounds like the clicking may be an Electric solenoid with bad contacts. Since the overdrive is suppose to activate at 40 mph and higher, the sputs you refer to is the vehicle failing to reach the final gear.

You can test this by disabling the overdrive with the button on the stem of the gearshift. If you can reach 40 mph and higher without complaint you have found the problem. Your vehicle will run well enough to take it in for repair. It will use more fuel and the engine will race more without Overdrive.

If the vehicle still sputs without Overdrive, then it is most likely a Pollution Solenoid that is interfering with the EGR system. It can also be a bad sparkplug wire or coil. Those parts sometimes short out at certain speeds and work perfectly good at other speeds. It takes just the right condition to show up.

I have tried to give you all the possibilities with the most likely first. The free scans would help you if you want to fix it yourself. Or you can use the free scans to verify what a Repair shop tells you.

Check engine light has come on. Truck running okay except when reaching 30-40 mph starts to vibrate and then works thru it pushing excelerator down for more power, engine stops jumping.

this is because of the critical RPM. in particular RPm it coincides with the resonants frequency. Due to this the vibration may occur. then when you overcome this RPM then it runs normally. please try not to run your truck in that particular RPM

Well, kind of short on description, issues typical in this complaint are misfiring and U joints.

To emininate the engine, does the vibration happen on power braking, without the vehicle moving?

I have the same thing but mine is between 45-50 mph. I read about this a while back in a magazine for people that pull campers, the problem exists in all vehicles although its not as noticeable in every thing you ride in. There is a certain "point" at which your speed and engine speed reach, that causes a phenomonon that causes a vibration. Engineers relate it to "harmonics" which is a similar issue but in the electronic field of study. There is nothing you can do for it, and it varies from unnoticeable in some vehicles to driving you insane in my 1989 Mazda B2200. I had an '89 Ford F-150 that did it at 35 mph and a 2001 Dodge Diesel that did it at 45 mph, but those were the only three vehicles I've ever driven and noticed it.
