It sounds like your speed sensor is broken. It is a +/- $30 part at rockauto.com. Let me know if this solves your problem.

What would cause an 02 t&c speedometer to stop working & not shift into overdrive? Codes p1193 & p1684 came up on dash. Van was shifting fine before that

My first guess would be a defective speed sensor in the transmission.
Neither of the codes you mentioned involve the speedo problem. Code 1193 is for a problem with the intake air temp sensor, and code 1684 means the engine computer has lost battery power at some point in time.

Won't go into overdrive toyota surf

Have you tired replacing the Vehicle speed sensor, that is what signals the computer to shift into overdrive. The sensor is located on the side of the transmission case where the speedo cable is.

My 1993 K1500 will not shift from 2 to drive or overdrive. Manual shift from 1-2 works, Also speedo quit at the same time.

its the speed sensor located on the drivers rear side of the transfer case, it has a 2 wire plug, the sensor screws into the tcase and is really easy to replace and fairly cheap at any parts if you buy the new one first it will help you find it by matching it up its a common problem with this vehicle, when it goes out the speedo quits and the computer doesn't know your moving so it doesn't shift the trans properly
