Copper heavy duty contacts either side of starter motor armature within the motor body have worn to nothing and so no contact. No contact means no electricity to the starter motor coils means no turn over. You can buy a kit to replace the copper contacts for less than $10. It will take about 45 minutes to remove, clean, strip, replace and refit the starter motor.

SOURCE: 97 chevy lumina wont turn over

The starter solenoid will click when the battery is to low to start the car. Have the battery charged and load tested to make sure it's good. Check the charging system to make sure the alternator is good. Check the wire connections at the starter. If either is loose, the starter won't work.
With a full, known good battery, turn on the headlamps and try starting the engine. If the headlamps stay bright, the contacts in the solenoid are bad. If the headlamps dim greatly or go out, the starter is shorted out and must be replaced.
Also try turning the crankshaft manually with a breaker bar and socket if you suspect that the engine may have seized up.

Why wont my car start it died going down the road replaced starter?

If you put a volt meter on the battery and it reads 12 volts before you cranked the engine and it drops to 10 volts or less when you crank the engine, this indicates you have a bad cell in the battery and you should replace the battery because it is not holding the charge. The loud click sound coming from your starter is because you are not supplying enough voltage to energize it.

Clicking sound when trying to start

A lot of times this is what happens with a low battery, loose bolts on the starter itself, or a bad throw out bearing on the starter. Have the battery and alternater checked at an autozone or o'reileys for free first because a starter can be a messy job.

Loud click and buzz when trying to start car

your starter is shot. The click and the ting sound is your bendex not engaging properly. You can catch car on fire, or mess up your computer if you keep trying to start it. Be sure to disconnect the battery when you change it. Good luck

2001 ford windstar will not turn over, just clicks

This is just a suggestion for a start, this problem is sometimes caused by the Trans-axle Positioning solenoid. It's a place to begin after a new starter has been installed and it still won't turn over.

Turn the key and the engine makes a click noise only and wont turn over. lights and accessories work so i believe battery is good. iam thinking starter or soliniod ?

Yes, if it is making a loud clicking noise it is most likely the starter. The solenoid is working...that is what you hear clicking. Doesn't get both when you buy a starter anyway.

Wont start when ignition is turned it just clicks, after about 10attempts it eventually just goes! think it maybe an immobiliser problem but not sure..

not immobilizer. how loud is the click? Is it just one click or click-click-click...? If one little click, may just be the start relay. If loud click, solenoid engages but starter has a dead spot. If many clicks, solenoid is acting up.

Please see my tip at and let me know if you have more questions.

Wont turn over lots of power just wont ingage the starter tested the starter and it works

Do you get a fairly loud 'click' when you try to start the engine? If so, the starter solenoid contactor is likely defective. I repaired our '96 Caravan solenoid by building up the worn out bolt head with silver solder--worked great. If you get no click at all, check the neutral safety switch on the transmission. Hope this helps!

I have power but my 1990 ford ranger clicks loudly and wont turn

Starter could be stuck..
If you are SURE you battery is fully charged with no dead cells..
Try --
(takes 2 peopl) -
Turn the key like you are trying to start it.
At the SAME time - smack the starter with a small hammer not too too hard..
Let me know what happens..
