It's a 2002 Mazda Protoge 5 speed manual trans. The speedometer just stopped working, could the cable just have come loose or is it no good? Where is the cable located on the car?

There is no cable. It has an output speed sensor located on back of transmission. It senses rpm & gives info to computer & speedometer.

F150 Speedometer issue

This is your speed sensor. Now i do not know if this is going to be cable driven or electrical because they used both in 95. Your local auto parts store will tell you exactly what kind is in your truck. I just changed one friday on a 94 ford escort and it was electrical. The part was around 20 dollars for the speed sensor.

1995 F150 SWB 300cid 5 Speed manual trans- speedometer and odometer quit working. could it be the VSS on the rear-end?

either that or the transmission also has another speed sensor located on the output drive of the transmission. it is a nylon gear usually held in by a single 10mm bolt. they can be tricky to remove because the unit is made of aluminum. carefully turn and pull once the bolt is removed, u will be looking for a slight curve on the nylon gear. if worn it will need to be replaced

You can use regular automatic transmission fluid in the 5-speed manuals. I would prefer using MERCON ATFif i was in your place.

Speedometer bounces while driving

your spedo cable is probably just loose which can be fixed by tightening or replaceing. Might as well go ahead and replace it since its a 14 year old truck and its the more sure fire way to fix the bounce.

Need to find the backup beeper or reverse light switch off of the 5 speed manual trans ford f350 1997.

Should be a small switch on the transmission itself. It will look like a threaded fitting screwed into the side or top of the transmission with 1 or 2 wires coming out of it. Lift the clip to release the wires & the unit will thread out with a wrench. On a 2wd truck there will also be a large cable (1/4" Diameter) attached to a fitting on the tail piece of the transmission, this is not what you are looking for. this is the Speedometer cable. On 4wd trucks the Speedometer cable is located on the back of the transfer case. either way, its not what you are looking for so don't remove it by mistake.

The back up light switch will "close" (to create circuit) for the back up lights only when the trans is in reverse & key is on (truck does not usually need to be running). The back up alarm is not usually a factory option & was likely installed at the dealer, another shop or by a previous owner. It is usually spliced off the back up light circuit wire somewhere between the trans & the rear bumper. Find the alarm & follow the wire back to the splice & ensure it is not corroded.
