The transmission 's valve body is faulty. Take the car to a transmission specialist, this is a big and expensive job.

Will not go into first gear when going down the gears

I will answer this as if it is a manual gear box as the solution will be different for an automatic.
First gear has a syncro ring energise spring that when pushed against the syncro cone in the gear spins the gear to the relevant shaft speed so that engagement is smooth. Because of the vast difference of the shaft speeds when engaging 1st gear the energising doesn't get a chance to work and so the gears refuse to mesh. To possible ways to get around this is to keep the road speed low say around 10mph or less or increase the engine rpm up to around 3500-4000rpm before trying to engage 1st gear. Basically the syncro is for engaging the gear as you are coming to a stop or going very slow . Check the drain plug magnet for metal as the clutch shaft bearing may be moving forward and preventing the engagement properly.

Have the fault codes read. Replace faulty items. Use only
genuine items as replacement as non-genuine are not always compatible with the OEM fitted CPU units. This results in the fault codes not cancelling out. I suspect a faulty reverse solenoid or vacuum line failure to the solenoid..; Leave the removal to the absolute last resort.

Hi,

I had the same problem with my transmission and the issue was with the Revolution Sensor on the transmission box.

Replaced it myself and the issue is permanently resolved.

Why doesnt my car go in reverse the reverse lights go on and it kicks but no movement

if you have an automatic gear box , then it is very possible that you have reverse band is broken inside gear box , , light will come on because switch for reverse lights may be actuated by shift lever not gears .

there is a foward band and reverse band in auto gerabox's so if you are able to drive forward this gearbox will need to be repaired or replaced .

if manual gearbox , you may find a reverse linkage loose , or gears dammaged in gear box .
good luck hope this helps

Cant get 1st gear. 2nd gear nosiey and crunches, 3rd 4th 5th work but wine alot, reverse works fine. reverse lights stay on when driving. car is a mitsubishi gto twin turbo AWD 1991 plate.

Sorry but it sounds like it is trassmission time. you see the 3-5 gears work on another ration thatn 1& second they are on one shaft. the reverse is off in another world. sounds like one of the rods go stuck this is why the reverse lights stay on...

Hold your breath. It will be expensive but then on a manual I would see if the repair shop will find a used tranny. for 1/2 the cost..

At what rpm should the automatic change gears in a 4d56 deisel pajero

all depends on your load and speed, at full throttel
from rest, should be about 3800-4000rpm, how ever if the kick down cable is not set correctly you may find gears taking long to up shift or kick down coming in to soon.
