How do you align the timing belt on 1995 Mitsubushi RVR twin cam?


there is a little notched out mark on both cam shaft gears and one notched out on both heads put those marks together there is one on the crankshaft pulley and the back timming belt cover line those 2 up depress the belt tensioner all the way in you might have to use a small allen wrench put the belt on and let the tensioner back out now make sure all your marks are still lined up and your ready.

Im looking for the timing marks on a 1988 land cruiser?


what timing? firing or cam and crank?
The crankshaft should have a notch on it's inboard flange to line up with a graduated plate on the engine
The crankshaft pulley on which the timing belt sits has a "button"
When fitting a new timing belt the timing belt should have lines telling you where it lines up with the "button" and then camshaft position where you should see notches in the camshaft pulleys or back plate.
If the cam cover is of the camshafts have dots on their gears.
If you have not got a manual then I'd advise getting one or downloading a pdf version. If you know what your doing but just don't have a manual then put some paint pen marks on everything before you start.

I had to change my head gasket on my 2001 VW Passat. That went great but know when I try to put back my timing belt it will not start. I have tried everything. I have alligned all the marks and still...


After you aligned the timing marks and tightened up the tensioner pulley, did you re-check your timing marks? Usually when you tighten the tensioner it will pull the cam and crank out of alignment. Line up the crankshaft first and then check to see where your cam gear is. If it is not lined up, loosen the tensioner and move the cam gear ahead to line it back up. If it doesn't line up perfectly then go AHEAD until the marks line up and put the belt back on. If the gear is on the mark and the belt teeth don't line up, move the gear ahead until you can get the belt on,but no more than a full tooth on the belt. Tighten your tensioner and check again. At most the cam sprocket should only be off about 1/2 tooth from the marks and it should be ahead not behind. Re-align your distributor to #1 and it should start. Hope this helps.

How do I get the timing right on a Acura legend.


You have to adjust the cam or cams depending on rather or not its a dual over head or single cam motor, with the marks on the crank shaft and oil pump pulley. You can get the timing mark diagrams from a chiltons book or off of Mitchell online. The only problem with mitchell is you have to subscribe to it. The timing cover must come off, the crank pulley also has to come off. When you get to where you can see the timing belt and gears you put the bolt for the crank pulley back in the crack shaft and turn the motor over manually with a ratchet and socket about 5 times until the marks on the cam or cams line up with the mark on the crank shaft and oil pump. If your car is not vtec then the oil pump pulley will not have a mark on it. This is something that probably needs to be done by a shop with technicians who have done it before. It can be a little confusing trying to do it yourself if you have never tried before. I hope this helps. What makes you think the car is out of time?

ahh the two liter iron duke i had that same truck once great engine although they have a bad reputation for timing issues the timing belt is located behind the harmonic balancer/crankshaft pulley once the fan and crank pulley are removed you should have complete access to the timing cover. open it and its as simple as lining up the confusing timing marks on the crank and cam when you put the belt on and apply tension with the belt tensioner pulley.hope this helps

I had a broken timing belt and im about to put a new one on but i need to know where the gears should be before i put the new one on


On the back of the top gear is a mark or line, that line should line up even with the top face of the head, on the spark plug side of the head. You'll need to reinstall the crankshaft pulley and line the mark on the front of that pulley with the mark on the intermediate shaft pulley.

Installation on 94 1.9L timing belt


Remove the serpentine belt, remove the lower crankshaft pulley, place a jack under the oil pan and jack up the engine slightly, remove the engine mount (right top). Remove the timing belt cover, loosen the timing belt tensioner and pull tensioner pulley back toward the rear of vehicle. I like to then tighten the tensioner bolt to hold it in this position, remove and replace belt. If you need to put the engine in time then look at the camshaft there is a small arrow in the center it lines up with a dot on the end of the cylinder head. The lower timing mark is a small metal tip that sticks out from the lower gear and it lines up with a notch cut into the front cover just behind the lower gear. Once aligned properly put the belt on the lower gear and without turning the lower gear or camshaft gear pull the belt tight up to the cam shaft the cogs in the belt will line up with the grooves, then place the belt around the water pump drive gear and under the tensioner, then push the belt over all gears by hand without turning the engine. Loosen the tensioner bolt and apply a little pressure toward the front of the vehicle and tighten the bolt. Replace everything else previously removed. Engine should start and run normally. you will need a impactgun or a way to hold pulley and then get bolt loose. before you take the belt off, turn the crank until the cam is lined up. there is a small hole on the cam gear, this will be at 12'oclock and a mark is directly behind it.(look through the hole to see mark) then look where the crank gear is, there will be a mark to line it up at TDC. to do th ebest job, replace the cam and crank seals, water pump and reseal the oil pump. replace the tensioner pulley.be sure to tension the belt correctly.

remove drive belts and water pump pulley remove plastic cover and crank pulley line marks on cam with marks on valve cover should be at 12 o clock then there is a notch in crank gear that lines up with *** on the block at about 1 o clock the tensioner is spring loaded 14mm nut loosen this nut use a pry bar to push tensioner back snug nut so pulley wont come back remove belt when installing new belt use paper clibs wit the rods that flip over to hold the belt on the pulleys be sure timing marks on cam are lined up before attaching clips as they will move when belt is removed after belt is installed and tensioner is tight turn engine by hand until cam marks are lined up be sure all marks are lined up if they are reassemble everything and happy motoring

You need to find the timing marks on both crank and cam pulleys, set it, then take of the belt ane dont let any pulley move! Put on new belt and set the tension of the belt.
