Question about 2004 Dodge Durango

1 Answer

I have a 2004 Dodge Durango 4.7. About 3 months ago I replaced the oil pump, but believe it was the oil pick up valve that was the problem. 2 days ago, the engine began knocking loudly the entire time it was driven. I changed the oil (even though it was not due for an oil change). It is still knocking when you crank it, but quietens as you drive. When I come to a complete stop, it doesn't knock at all. What else could it be????? Thanks!

Try using a MOPAR oil filter...These cheap after market filters are allowing the oil to drip down into the pan and there is none in the top of the motor on cold starts.

,oil pressure light comes on only when stopped at stop lights or stopped traffic, had oil change 4 days ago

Hopefully, it's just a bad oil sender unit, but, when the oil light flashes at stop signs and lights it's usually and indicator that the vehicle is either low on oil or you may be having problems with the oil pump. I would get it to a qualified mechanic ASAP unless you're qualified to work on it yourself.

How to remove oil pan on a 2004 dodge durango

You have to Unbolt the engine mounts and lift the engine, Unbolt the oil pan and rotate the crankshaft by hand to get it to clear the counterweight on the crank. If the engine has 100,000 miles or more replace the oil pump while your in there.

I have a 2004 Dodge Durango and my oil light comes on and goes off.We have the oil changed like we should. The other day the engine light come on and today it when off after we drove it for 30 mins.

Possible causes of the oil light coming on are -
low oil pressure
dirt in the passage behind the oil pressure switch
a faulty oil pressure switch.
Most people either replace the switch or have the oil pressure checked with a mechanical gauge.

The fuse is in the fuse box under the hood on the driver side behind the battery. when you take the lid off the fuse box there is a schematic on the underside of the lid it will tell you which fuse to replace.

Where is the EGR Valve on a 2004 Dodge Durango Limited, V8, 5.7L Hemi? Is a hard operation to replace?

Have not replaced the EGR on my 04 Durango as of yet, but if you look into the the passenger side front fenderwell you will see part of it. Usually 2-4 bolts and the harness connector are all that is required.

Chrysler EGR valves are not known for their reliability.

'01 Durango R/T slight oil consumption. 1/4 - 1/2 Qt a month. about every 500-1000miles. Is this normal is signs that gaskets need replaced. If so what gaskets?

Anything over 1 quart in 1000 miles might be considered excessive. It probably is not gaskets unless there is a leak. If there is a leak there might be a puddle of oil on the ground where you park it. If there is a puddle or drips of oil look at valve cover gaskets, oil pan gaskets, crankshaft seals , etc.

98 Volvo V70 GLT - Oil Pump or Valve Job?

Most common cause of ticking in these is the oil pick-up seals. Remove the pan and replace the oil pick-up tube seal, the two seals for the tube in the pan and the 2 O-rings on the right side of the pan. And dont use silicone to seal the pan back up, because it WILL leak, I highly recommend the Volvo sealant
