Van will not start.... there is no noise or clicking, just wont start can this be a starter problem?

-First Check battery (Is it full? ) and tight all connector.
-Check all Fuses. (If blow out/ Replace new one)
-try to start now.
Q: still do nothing?
A: Yes.
- Next check the small wire that connect to the starter solenoid.
Not the big one from the battery!
Is it connect there...?
A: Yes.
-Okay disconnect it and hook up a volt meter to the wire and ask some one to help you turn the key to start and hold at start position. It should have 12 volts there.
Q: Any voltage there...?
A: Yes
-Need new starter.
A: No. no voltage at all.
-Possibly the wire is open some where between the end to the ignition key.

My 1988 honda prelude will not start. I check battery , and alternator is new. When I turn the key, It just makes a clicking noise. All my lights seem to work. Outside and inside, but just will not turn...

Hello Lisa,

Thanks for choosing me to help you with your unfortunate problem. There is good news, and that is I feel I can help you.

Based on reading your problem/symptoms I believe I know what has possibly happened accidentally of course. You said you checked your car just clicks when you turn key, I assume the clicking your hearing because all the lights work, is that is the starter not getting good power.

I will explain. Because you have lights, means battery is working and hot.You also stated that the alternator is new and the starter is new. Now, at first I would have you go through a series of all these boring mechanical checks, BUT I believe what has happened is sense you said it JUST HAPPENED after your son put on new starter and now it appears it is clicking when you try and turn key, is that i believe it is highly possible that maybe your son did not hook up the main cables to the starter/solenoid tight enough or they might of been dirty or corroded. I am almost positive you trace down the cables to your starter ( with maybe your sons help?) that you will see not a good solid clean connection. If you can do that or check that FIRST, then I believe after you clean it and make sure it is good and tight, should fire right up. Please let me know, and if this did solve this issue, a nice rating and kind words of appreciation would be very much appreciated. Thanks So. Much, Mike, your auto expert man.

Turn the key and the engine makes a click noise only and wont turn over. lights and accessories work so i believe battery is good. iam thinking starter or soliniod ?

Yes, if it is making a loud clicking noise it is most likely the starter. The solenoid is working...that is what you hear clicking. Doesn't matter...you get both when you buy a starter anyway.

If the car dose not make any type of noise when you try to start it is is a power issue and you should check your battery and wiring to make sure there is no lose wires. if it dose make some sort of noise please respond with what type of noise it makes and I will do my best to point you in the correct direction.

Thank you hope this helped.

Thank you,

2007 jeep wrangler tip start feature problem

First I would ask a friend to tow you to the auto parts store, and yes it sounds like you need a new starter. When the starter kept running it is because the bendix was stuck engaged. When you shut the jeep off and it would not turn over it is becuase the starter is fried. That happens with electrical componants.
