Question about Dodge Neon

1 Answer

Hubcap isn't fitting properly on one tire. Comes right off and I don't want to lose it while driving. These are new hubcaps, just replaced the old ones.

Hubcap removal tool, is it necessary for a 1995 Mercury Grand Marquis?

There are about 8 different keys. Each one is the same size, but the notches are in different places much like a house key.
And a standard size metric socket is either 16mm or 17mm.
If the bolt is on tight enough that you can' t turn it with any socket, you will need to drill out the bolt, or cut a hole around the bolt with a hole saw. You also may be able to take a chisel or hacksaw and notch the bolt and use a flat bladed screwdriver.
You might be able to use a star socket if you had one.

I cant remove my hubcap due to a special tool. What is this tool and where can I find one or what can i use in place of this tool?

If I'm not mistaken it is a bolt that goes through the center of the hubcap with a special design, if that is the case then that tool should be located in the vehicle somewhere. If the tool is lost a local tire shop may have an old one floating around or dealership. I have removed them before by using a flat headed screwdriver and wedged it in the grooves and twisted it out.

My hub caps wont come off..

HI
Determine how the hubcaps are attached. Some simply push on, others have a small screw holding them on, and a few won't come off unless you take the lug nuts off.
Depending on what type of hubcap your car has, either unscrew the screw that holds the hubcap on, or with a large screwdriver or a pry bar, pry the hubcap off the wheel.
place a new hubcap on the wheel.
Strike the edge lightly with a rubber mallet and work around the rim of the hubcap with the mallet until it's seated, or screw the screw back in.
Repeat for each hubcap.

I can't unlock the hubcap to change the tire

Take a picture of the lug nut and go to the auto parts store to buy the key that fits the lug nut.  You may have to purchase the whole kit with the key, but at least you will always have spare lug nuts.  Alternative is to show the picture to the locksmith shop and see if they have any suggestions.  Poor boy fix is to go to Sears and purchase their Lug Nut breaker to remove the nut and install a regular one.

Rubber hubcap bolt has been stripped!

I'd take it to a independent local tire dealer (not a brand name dealer for instance) and ask them for assistance...should be cheap.
Good Luck

Heavy ticking noise in right front end

Check your lug nuts that they are all tight!
You should always double check when you change are rotate tires. at least once the next week. Could also be a hubcap.

Attaching a new hubcap recently bought online

Line up the notch in the hubcap with the valve core, hold in on one side and tap the other side, repeat until the cap is seated. If the hubcap does not stay on, look for broken tabs at the backside of the hubcap where the circular wire is. If any of these tabs are broken, the cap will not stay on.
Thnaks for allowing me to assist you, and thanks for using FixYA!
