If it's the cable and not the latch you'll have to replace it anyway, so instead of removing the grill, cut the cable behind the pull lever under the dash where you can reach it. then skin the outer cable insulation away from the actual steel cable exposing an inch or two of it. then holding the insulation and plastic housing with pliers, grab the steel cable itself with pliers and pull it to open the hood. then replace the cable. the further you can reach up under the panel the better your chances of getting past the broken part of the cable and avoid removing the grill. you might also be able to gain access from up under the car if you're lucky.

Safety catch on hood wont release and hood wont re latch!

I would check to see if the hood release moves when the inside lever is pulled then pushed, if not the cable and latch mechanism may need lubrication or be broken.

Engine hood wont open hood pull handle pulls out but wont release

Try pulling on the hood release, while someone else lifts the hood. If this doesn't work. You can access the underside of the hood release by taking the front grille out. If you look closely you'll see the retainer screws that can be removed from the front. Once the grille is out or loosened enougt to get your hand in behind, you can release the hood latch from the underside with a screwdriver and then repair the hood latch after you've opened it.

Hood wont open on 1999 dodge durango

The cable to the hood is most likely broken. The hood can be opened from underneath by pulling the cable and replacement is not terribly difficult once the hood is open.

Your cable anchor that holds the cable is loose or is pivoting causing your latch not to have full stroke. Hope this fixes your problem.

try getting a pair of pliers and gripping the cable on the back off the release and popping the bonnet,
if this is no good you may have to go to the dealer to get them to open the bonnet and replace the macanism
