Question about Chevrolet Cobalt

Got home parked the car in the driveway and attempted to turn the key off and it won't turn. Car is running. It is in PARK (tried it in neutral too). Drove it around the block and tried again. I don't have power locks or windows but do have power steering . Car is 2 years old.

Car won't start? You hit the key. Nothing. Try this on ANY car.

Your car runs fine. Then 1 day you go out to start it and get no response. It won't crank. It won't even try to start. Nothing. What the heck is going on?
Try starting it in neutral. This trick can work on any make or model of any age.
There is a safety switch that will not allow the starter to engage in any gears, except park and neutral. Sometimes the shift lever indicates park, but the actual linkage is just barely in park. Enough to park the car and get your keys out, but not enough to trip that neutral safety switch.
You can, also, try firmly shifting in and out of park a few times. This may realign the indicator and the linkage. Good luck

Why did my truck quit running while driving? Lights radio etc are fine.

There are many things that could be the problem. The main thing is the transmission. You should go to the nearest auto shop and get it checked out for any problems around that area.

Ignition switch won't release key when it is put in park. But when I removed switch and key tumbler, the key tumbler/cylinder releases key. Why won't the key release when it is in park?

Most newer models have a safety feature called
shift interlock. This prevents the key from being turned back
to the lock position if you forget to place the gear selector in park.
Depending on the model,
If it uses a cable, it may be sticking or needs adjusting.
If it uses an electrical solenoid. may be blown fuse or park switch.
Tap, shake, and pull up on the shifter and make sure it's in park.

Won't go into to park

there are a few things that make this happen but lets try this test...

NOTE... you must do this in a safe PRIVATE location!!!

stop the vehicle pointing down a slight downgrade, like a driveway, place the vehicle in neutral and turn off the engine.
then with your foot on the brake, release pressure and let the vehicle start to roll downhill. While rolling see if you can get the vehicle into park

REMEMBER...you need to make sure you find a safe place to do this. Avoid public places

also REMEMBER, you will lose the power assist of the brakes after your first attempt so be prepared to apply a lot of pressure to get the vehicle to stop

if you are able to obtain park in this test then you might have a bent parking pawl

if not... update us ASAP

My key won;t turn in the ignition> The wheel

Try this -
Turn the steering wheel HARD - in the same direction the wheels are pointing - have a strong person do this - while you try to turn the key WITH the foot on the brake and the car in park or neutral.
This releases the pressure on the steering column.

Please let me know if this workd

Cant get my gear shift out of park on my 2003 aztek

turn the key on 1 position from off and attempt to move the shifter if you can move the shifter you have a faulty park lock solenoid (even if u can move the shifter it still more than likely is the park lock solenoid) have it replaced this is a nuisance yes but does not in any way affect the safety and operation of the vehicle

to use it with the faulty part turn key on 1 position move shifter to neutral and start car then move shifter to desired position
