Hi to locate the brake light switch you need to have a very close look at the brake pedal (now this is where you need to be a contortionist) if you follow the brake pedal right to the top just before it goes through the bulk head, now at the very top of the pedal if you have a close look you will see the brake light switch its actually located at the very back and very top of the brake pedal.

its a bit hard to get to but if you slide the drivers seat right back and you sort of break your neck twisting round to have a close look at the brake pedal you should just about see the brake light switch its at the very back of the pedal and will have a couple of wires going to it.

now if you have got big hands your in trouble as its very hard to get to so you may struggle.

let me know if you have any problems ok

plz rate this solution as i have a whole page of unrated posts, thanks

Hi no its the only way you can get to it you could remove the pedals but its just as hard to get them off and to put them back, i know is a tight space but its the only way you can get the switch replaced,

so had to take car in and have brake switch replaced. Now car wont come out of park. WOW! now they say its my transmission so i have to go to a transmission shop. HELP

  • paul proctor Aug 30, 2010

hi, what a nightmare, i take it you drove the car to them with no problems, getting the switch replaced wont of affected the transmission, you must be unlucky as it seems strange this would happen strait after getting the switched replaced.

are the brake lights now working, you need to put your foot on the brake pedal so you can take it out of park dont you, im trying to think is their anything they could have knocked or bust that would have caused this problem.

i dont think its a tranny problem i would say its either a sensor or loose wire, ill ask a few people what they think then ill get back to you, but off the top of my head i cant think why the switch would affect the tranny like that

i would check the brake light switch is working before you pay for tranny work as the brake light switch needs to be working to change out of park and as you drove it their it must have been working to let you to drive the car so the tranny side of the switch must have been working,

let me have an ask around, im as confused as you, its either a seperate problem that has just happened due to no fault of anybody or it could be something that has got knocked or not put back correctly, ill let you know if i find anything out ok

2007 Yukon Xl Denali can the headlight switch/dimmer cause only the tail lights to not work. Dash lights, signals, brake lights when pressed work. Both sides went out. No blown fuse or broken wires.

If front park lights are working highly unlikely headlight switch is the issue. Is the vehicle equipped with a trailer towing package and wiring to the rear? I would start there. This vehicle may also have a taillight module located under the vehicle on the passenger rear attached in the wheel well area that goes bad

1999 Yukon Denali stop shifting out of park.

Check the brake lights when this happens, if they are not on then you have found the problem it is the brake light circuit. Go under the dash if the brick lights don't work and check the brake light switch above the brake pedal, it should have 12 volts in and out with the brake pedal pushed down. See typical brake light switch location below. #4 in diagram is brk lite switch.

I have a 2001 yukon denali and i have no brake lights, i have changed the lights and checked the fuses

Now check the ground to those lights to make sure it's connections on both ends are tight and not corroded. Once you are sure that the ground is good, if you still don't have lights it must be the switch, located at the base of the brake pedal. J.

2002 gmc yukon denali xl, cruise control inop after installing l.e.d. taillamp assemblies, know it is a resistance problem, where and what rating of resistor should i install?

It is not a resistance problem. As it operates normally, the cruise control is wired to the stop lamps and will operate only when it sees chassis ground through the stop lamps. When you tap your brake pedal, 12 volts is applied, the ground goes away and cruise is deactivated. Because the LED tails are diodes and only let current flow one way, the cruise cannot see ground and will not set or operate. The same symtoms would appear if you had original incandescent tail lamps and both brake lights were burned out.
The solution will be finding the wire from the cruise that senses the brake lights, and connecting it directly to the brake switch, IF the brake switch is grounded when the pedal is not pressed. You may have a relay wired to the brake pedal switch to make this happen. Seek a knowledeable car audio/accesory shop familiar with auto electrical to help you with this.
Good luck!

03 Yukon denali park brake warning wont turn off

hi for info the brakes warning light on dash is also an indication that brake fluid level is low? or there may be a leak resulting in fluid level drop ? also considering age of car you may need to inspect brake pads wear ? if your car has low brake pads wear indicators attached to pads ? or the hand brake switch req's checking to ensure it is being pushed to off position when h/brak is down ? so fluid level low is the obviouse 1st check as fluid will displace from reservoir as pads wear low hence the level indicator on fill cap trips on may i suggest if it is low level b4 you top up? check your b/pads if you have not done so recently? or replaced since new ? hope this helps you locate problem best wishes from the uk

2002 YUKON XL Denali no brake lights or cruise

FROM LUSTY KID:

Check your bulbs first, I have lost both headlights on my ford at once on account of the bulbs burning out at the same time. Same thing probably happen, you have one filament out. The lights can work, but if the filament for brake is burnt, you don't see brake lights.

As for the cruise control. Check fuse box first. If OK check vacuum hose to actuator in engine compartment for starters.
