Within the stering, just under the steering wheel is an item referred to as a "clock Spring" this allows for electrical contact between the wheel and electrical contacts. With time these will fail, easy to replace standard tools plus a steering wheel puller.

Please let me know if this had assisted you,

How can you use wire going to the horn from the relay and put on a push button switch

Find the wire at the bottom of the steering column that comes down from the horn button, or locate the wire at the horn relay.. Cut this wire and splice it to a wire that goes to one side of a push button switch. Connect the other side of the switch to the metal chassis of the car, which is ground. A metal part of the dashboard frame will usually work. Then when you press the button, it will activate the relay and sound the horn.

Can not get horn to blow on a 2001 malibu

2001 malibu horn fuse and relay are located in the under the hood fuse box.
location 21 should be the relay
location 43 should be the fuse.
if the relay is put in wrong the horn will not work. if you replaced the relay and the horn stopped working try pulling the relay out and turning it around. and try the horn again.

Horn hook up

You have two wires going to the horn? Just plug them into the horn. If the horn still doesnt work switch them around.

Schematics for cjb100pd

Red is your positive, black is negative, both brown wires are to the speaker, and the yellow and green wire are for any emergency strobe lights you may want to hook up to it. P.S. if you wire up the brown wires and siren doesn't work make sure volume is turned up and try it again if it doesn't work then switch the brown wires around. Both toggle switches on the far right is to only turn the lights on. not the siren. Make sure the siren nob is turned all the way left thats off. The rest of the are just siren modes. The toggle switch all the way to the left. Push down horn comes on release it then horn goes off. Push up siren comes on for like 7-10 seconds and the goes off. Horn and your microphone always override any siren that may be on.

Horn comes on when no one is in the car. turns off (usually) after pushing the steering collumn, which is where you ususally push to turn horn on.

There is a known issue with this vehicle that causes the horn to blow on its own. The contact pad has changed shape over the years and now when the weather changes (hot and cold make metal shrink and expand) the 2 parts touch causing the horn to go off. Take the vehicle to a mechanic and have a new contact pad installed.

The horn keeps going off even after the car is off

The horn works when the horn button is pushed...breaking the circuit or removing the ground from the horn. The wire between your horn and your horn button has come lose somewhere. I would remove the horn fuse until you can find the problem.

My horn on a 99 grand am doesnt work ,can i by pass the horn button in the steering wheel ? if so how?

push the horn button when its quiet at night and see if you can hear a tiny click from under the dash. If you hear a click then it may be the horn under the hood is faulty. if no click, make sure all your fuses are good. If your handy you can trace that horn wire coming out of the column. you may need a chilton or haynes book for the wire diagram. I dont recommend disassambling the wheel because of the airbag, so try and get access to the wire by undoing the collar around the column or under the dash. you should be able to just ground the the horn wire and it should sound. shouldnt have to connect the horn wire to any other wire, just to ground, check haynes manualcarefully, always keep one battery cable slightly loose when doing work like that. If all else fails go and get an air horn replacement kit for it with its own wiring and switch. they are cool anyways and make pedestrians and bicyclists move quicker than what they normally would... LOL

good luck

My 99 Toyota Avalon horn does not make any sound.

save yourself the hassle , buy yourself a momentary 12volt switch drill a nice clean hole on your driversside dash and re-wire your horn to it, all the screwing around you'll do to figure out why toyota makes cheesy horn contacts you could have your problem fixed..

on one side of the switch you should run a wire that is a 12volt switched +
on the other side I would run another side run a new power wire to your horn
leave your horns stock ground and just replace the HOTLINE ..

you could even go as far as installing a la cou ca racha horn to bring back that 70's Lowrider feel lol
