Question about 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan

2 Answers

Changed pads and rotors on the front end, and now the pedal basically goes to the floor. It's a 2007 Dodge Caravan SE, and the rotors, calipers, piston covers, bracket, and the pads are all dry rotted, rusted, deteriorating ..already! Is it the calipers, or what could be the problem!?

It may be the caliper, but if you opened the bleeders or lines then the system need bleeding, also you may want to replace the hoses and calipers if they were badly dry rotted as you wouldnt want to loose your brakes while driving.

Also almost forgot, after replacing pads the pedal will go to floor a few times you must pump the pedal to open the pistons back out until the pads hit rotors, did you pump the pedal a few times?

Try holding the brake pedal down overnight with a broom jammed into the seat ?? if that doiesnt work then bleed the brakes and if still no joy then ask a local mechanic to diagnose for you before you spend a fortune on unecessary parts

INSTALLED NEW FRONT BRAKE PADS ON MY 2006 DODGE CARAVAN AND NOW PEDAL GOES TO FLOOR, I DID NOT DISCONNECT ANYTHING. WHY WOULD THIS HAPPEN?

When you push the caliper piston in to install the new brake pads, you have to keep pumping the brake paddle after the new pads and every thing is put back together, the paddle will come back up, do it with the engine off.

98 dodge caravan just changed master cylinder and the pedal still goes t6o the floor was doing this before also

Check the fluid level in mastercylinder first. Inspect brake lines for any leak. Also it could be a leaking caliper piston on the front brakes or a wheel cylinder on the rear. Will have to remove the tires on front to inspect and if you do not have rotors on rear you will have to remove the brake drums to inspect for a leaking wheel cylinder. Hope this will help you.

How do i replace front drivers side brake caliper?

Jack the van up, remove the tire. Then you will see the caliper. There will be 2 bolts that hold it on to the rotor. Remove the bolts and pry it off with a screw driver or what ever works. Then disconnect the break line from the caliper. After you get the new one use a c-clamp to press the piston down into the caliper and install the brake pads. Bolt the caliper back into place and install the line. Loosen up the bleed valve on the caliper 1/2 turn and have someone pump the breaks until no air bubbles come out. Once you have a smooth stream of brake fluid coming out the valve have that person pump once more and hold the pedal all the way to the floor. Then tighten the valve.

Changed front brake pads. brake pedal goes to floor. no brakes

Something doesn't sound right, you shouldn't have to remove the brake line to install pads. Did you have to do this on both sides? Do the new pads and the old pads look the same? Did you get the caliper on crooked? Just recheck your work first before replacing more parts. When you install the caliper, You have to hook the pad on one side first before you slide it over the rotor.
