SOURCE: how to replace a water pump

This will probably be easiest water pump you'll ever have to replace. Since its bad it probably has leaked enough coolant out that you wont even have to drain the radiator. Use a half inch breaker bar to take tension off the belt at the tensioner(below the power steering pump), remove belt. The pump is the closest pulley to you when standing in front of the car. Use a 10mm wrench or socket to remove 4 bolts on the pulley, and then there is I believe 6 8mm bolts that hold the pump onto the housing. Give the pump a tap with a hammer, and the pump will come right off. If the gasket is still attached to the housing scape it off using care not to gouge the surface. you should cover the inside with a rag so no pieces fall into the system. Use some RTV sealant on the new gasket(light coating) both sides, let it cure for 5 mins, then reinstall gasket and pump. The bolts don't take much torque but make sure they are good and tight. Now reinstall the belt and fill the radiator. Give the sealant about an hour to really set-up before you start the engine. With radiator cap removed start the engine let it warm-up and fill the radiator as needed. Replace the cap, fill overflow tank to proper level and take it for a ride watching the temp gage. All should be good. If the temp is high after a mile or 2 their is probably air in the system that needs to be bled out.

SOURCE: falls dead when driving, will restart after awhile

Did you try checking or replacing the coolant sensor? I think you should replace it along with the thermostat. Are there any problems like sputtering or any unusual noises or symptoms? Smoke, anything?

What makes the fuel pump not kick on on a 92 Oldsmobile Cutlass

There is a red wire close to the battery in the front. It's not connected to anything. Apply positive voltage and that will run your pump for testing purposes.

I have a 1994 Olds Cutlass Supreme overheating

If it's the water pump, you should be able to see it dripping just behind the pulley. The seal on the water pump is usually what goes. If there is antifreeze drips all over the front of the engine, and it drips a bit after you shut it off, it likely is the water pump.
If it runs poorly when you first start it in the morning, however, you could still have a head gasket problem. If that is the case, you will see a lot of white exhaust, which is the cylinder blowing the antifreeze out. One thing you can do is run it with the rad cap off, and see if it continues to bubble. If it does, then your head gasket is leaking. I am assuming it is a V6, so keep in mind that you have 2 head gaskets. The other oine could be gone now if it wasn't replaced.

Did you add coolant ? you are supposed to bleed the system after adding coolant. it also could be a bad Coolant temperature sensor which turns on the radiator fans. or a leak in the intake manifold gasket.Or even a bad thermostat. Does the heater work ? All of this can cause that problem.

Cannot remove the pulley from my 1991 olds cutlass ciera 's water pump. Its a 4cyl. Plus the new water pump doesn't look quite the same.

I replaced my water pump on my 92 olds, and the pulley will look slightly different because it's newer, but just make sure its the right one. The pulley does not come off of the water pump, both the water pump and pulley have to be changed. Your new one should come with both the pump and pulley already connected
