Question about 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander XLS

There are 2 screws in the front brake pads/roters. One has a rubber tip and the other one doesn't. Which one goes where?

Did you remove the other side as well look at the other side it may be up top but look at the other side.

The rubber plugs are to stop dirt blocking the Allen key head! Remove the rubber plugs and undo the 7mm Allen key screws, then calliper can be removed to access the pads! Refit in reverse!

Rear disk need turning, did you turn new roters when you replace them on the front I always did and found most new roters are not true. If it isn't a roter problem check front end parts for looseness such as idler arm

ok have ever had the breakes changed before or is there any squeling or grinding thats your brake pads are bad. as far as the whole brake system being replace thats ********* that mechanic is looking for a big bonus. im leaning towards a stuck or sticking calipar would cause it as well as if there is are in the system and will need to be bleed out. no if the roter's are warped u will know it cause the whole front end will shake when step on the brakes but only when u use the brakes. if you can see the brake roter's run your finger tip accros them they should be smooth with no groves or rigges if they have them the pads are bad as well as the roters and will need to be replaced, and a abs secner would kick in the abs. all in all i would take it to a shop u trust.

Probably not a video, but brakes are to be performed in Axle sets. If the LF is worn more than the RF, something is wrong, like frozen caliper.

Replace front rotors


For tools you'll need a set of metric sockets and wrenchs pry bar or large screw driver a small to med. hammer, and since you,ll most likly install new pads a C clamp to compress the
caliper piston. Next, chalk the wheels and jack up the side you want to do first and put a stand under it. Once the wheel is off you will see a spring clip across the front of the caliper, remove
the clip, be careful not to bend it. Next remove the 2 caliper mounting bolts(the smaller 2 of the 4) and remove the caliper you may need to use the pry bar to work it back+forth until it's
free. Next, remove the pads and place 1 pad over the caliper piston then use the C clamp(screw end to the pad)to compress
the piston be sure the clamp won't touch the brake hose or fitting. Next remove the 2 bolts holding the caliper mounting bracket and remove. Check the base of the wheel studs for small round clips, if you see any remove them or break them off.
And remove the roter. Reverse the procedure to install the new roter. Repeat the procedure for the other side. Hope this is what you needed to know. Good luck.

Was told by Les Scwabb when went in for tirefix that the rear brakes are completely gone, needs pads rotors and calipers, and shouldn't really drive it anywhere. Is this something u think I should trust?...


Hi!!

Same happened to me once. I went and bought pads for $35 and took rotors to PepBoys for resurfacing, it was 10 or 15 for both. If they can not be resurfaced they tell you right there and offer new ones for about $50 ea. The actual change of pads I did it myself. Saved over $500 from their estimate.

Get another brake shop's estimate, and have them check your front brakes also, you'll be surprised on the $$$ difference.

Front brake pads wear down too quick


Get the brake calipers checked, the slides are probably seized/sticking causing drag.Check the rear hubcap for stones/debris/looseness.There is also a brake snow/debris guard which tends to rust.

I replaced the pads on my 2005 Honda Accord. I had


ABS only senses if the wheel is spinning or not.
"Thumping sound" sounds like a bad problem. I've not had thumping sound from my front brakes ever.
I don't know how a caliper could cause thumping.
Is everything installed correctly and do the brakes stop the car??

After replacing front roters and pads - I have


It sounds like the calipers have seized after being pushed back to allow for the new pads. Take ot the new pads press the brake pedle slowly to release the caliper(just enough so it's released almost to full , then push back with your finghr and thumb) one side at a time, coat with copper slip and do the same on the other side. Rgarding the abs, make sure the new pads have the correct electrical connections to complete the abs circut, if not you will have to buy new ones that do. Hope that works

Are my front brakes pads(disc) supposed to be flush and touching with the roters when the emergency brake is Not on?


Yes. Their is nothing to retract the pads from the roters. Their is no preasure on the pads so they will not wear,but get bumped slightly by the rotor(s) away from the rotor itself. They are all like that.
