Question about Chevrolet Malibu

1 Answer

On a 1967 Chevelle,283,4 barrel; after setting over night when I try to start it, it turns over but will not start. After spraying starting fluid in the carb it starts and stays running until I shut it off. The next day I have to do the same thing. I was also having a problem with it stalling when I came to a stop after I've driven a couple hours.

Is the choke working? Because this is what happens when it doesn't.

In that case the carb  - and more precisely its idle system - is badly adjusted: it doesn't provide the correct mixture at startup - it's too lean. Check first the position of the choke, then the level in the bowl.

96 ciera 2.2 ran fine. parkedat night next morn wont start.its getting fuel and fire but sounds like its not even trying to start

Check for spark.. pull one spark plug out set it on bare metal(away from cyl hole fuel could light from spark) turn vehicle over and look for spark should be a nice lightning bolt looking spark... blue spark is weak spark.. and see if it's getting spark...,, if not,,."try new plugs.,wires, distributor cap&rotor " also first.spray a little starting fluid down the injection system turn it over and see if it fires.if it does then it's a fuel issue prob not electrical... try that.hope it helps

The key doesn't turn all the way to start.

Try moving the steering wheel whilst turning the key. The lock mechanism may have jammed. You can also try spraying a bit of silicone fluid onto the key and turning it back and forth to free up the barrel.

Engine hard to start after sitting

Sounds like it could be a carburator issue. Fuel could be leaking out of the fuel bowl or back to the fuel tank. You can tell this if you have the breather off and *before trying to start the engine* operate the accelerator arm on the carburator as you look down into the carburator. If the fuel hasn't leaked back you should see it shoot some fuel into the carburator. Also could be a fuel pump problem where the pump lets the fuel leak back and there isn't fuel there to pump up to start the engine when it's cold. Also the 360 wasn't released until 1971 so it's pretty safe to say it's not a 1967 or not a 360.

I am removing the dash from my 1967 chevelle, got all the switches out w/ the exception of the ignition switch, I can turn the bezel so far and then it appears to stop turning and the switch is still in...

I have a '67 Chevelle SS and I have to replace the ignition switch too. I tried removing the very top edge of the dash by removing all of the screws but it won't budge. How did you remove yours?

Remove left front fender 1967 Chevelle

There are quite a few bolts on this fender. One on the bottom of the rocker, one between the the door and fender on the "A" pillar, one on the cal, one on the firewall then several on the inner fender and several on the radiator core support. after these are removes you need to take ou the head light assembly and you should have a fender brace under the front of the car. Hope this helps.
