Question about 1997 Ford Expedition

Open Question

I have a 1997 Ford Expedition. While driving down the road the radio will shut off then the gauges go out. After that there will be 5 consecutive beeps from behind the passenger side dash. After that the theft light starts flashing and the engine shuts down. Help! I have had it at Ford and they want a boat load to find out what the problem is, but I know the beeps mean something and it just seems as though they are trying to soak me for extra diagnostics before they get around to fixing it.

Dashboard In a 1997 ford expedition won't come on

If you are talking about the instrument panel and radio lights, one possibility is a broken panel light dimmer rheostat (This is not the same as the headlight dimmer switch). Try turning it to full brightness. If at some point the lights suddenly come on, that's definitely your problem. If the lights don't come on, it could still be broken.

I have seen an older vehicle driven by a person who didn't notice the instrument panel lamps were burning out until the last one went - maybe all you have to do is replace all of the bulbs. :)

Also, check the instrument panel fuse. If it's blown, you'll have to track down the wiring problem that caused the fuse to blow. Merely replacing the fuse is just asking for the problem to happen again at the worst possible moment - such as on a dark road on a dark night where there is a known speed trap, when you're low on fuel, and suddenly you're unable to see either the speedometer or the fuel gauge.

2004 ford expedition Eddie Bauer- the battery light came on and the check charging system light. The truck was driving fine and I had planned to take it into auto zone to have them run a diagnostic to see...

No one can guess at vehicle problems

Should have gotten to auto zone sooner

You know how old the battery is

Asking the question over & over won't
get you back on the road

there is a bad door switch .
or rear hatch switch.
all you can do is detatch the switches one by one and hope to find the culpriet!!the rear hatch is most suspect... but dont rule out the drivers' door!

Sometimes a bad battery connection will cause gauges go hay wired. Turn your switch on but not over and see if your gauges do the same without the car running. try loosening the battery cables and reposition the post.

Lost all electrical power while driving?

Sounds like a poor connection from either the positive or ground from the battery. Check connections at the battery, follow the cables to see if any other connections are loose.
