It may be downshifting harshly, and that's not a good sign. Check the level and condition of your transmission fluid. It should be clear red or pink. If it is dark or has a funny smell, change the fluid and filter. That often helps an ailing transmission. It's a pretty easy, straightforward procedure for people who work on their own cars. A shop with a lift could probably do it in one hour.

Transmission slips in d &od with steam in cab

transmission slipping could be low transmission fluid level or need a transmission fluid and filter change.if transmission fluid was real low check for transmission fluid leaks around transmission oil pan gasket or fluid leaks around cooler lines or torque converter shaft seal. if you getting steam inside cab.your heater core is leaking.if transmission fluid level okay and filter been changed could have faulty over drive switch.

There is a recall for harsh downshift in 4cyl versions of your generation Sonata. It is a simple ecu update a dealer can do and it should cost you nothing.

IF TRANSMISSION FLUID COLOR IS PINK FULL OF BUBBLES EITHER YOU HAVE TOO MUCH TRANSMISSION FLUID IN TRANSMISSION WHICH CAUSES IT TO CHURN THE FLUID. OR YOU HAVE AIR GETTING IN THE SYSTEM BUT IT SOUND LIKE TORQUE CONVERTER SOLENOID CIRCUIT OPEN NOT ALLOWING TRANSMISSION GO INTO OVER DRIVE.IF YOU SEE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT.BEST TO CODE SCAN VECHICLE TO SEE WHAT TROUBLE CODE YOU GETTING.BY TRANSMISSION BEING PCM CONTROLLED BEST TO SCAN BECAUSE TRANSMISSION HAS MANY SHIFT SOLENOIDS.TAKE CAR TO TRANSMISSION SHOP LET THEM CODE SCAN AND CHECK TRANSMISSION FLUID COLOR.NORMAL FLUID COLOR WOULD BE RED COLOR.

02 ford explorer scan tool shows code p0741 whats the fix for that code

Without diagnosing this problem i can only take a good guess, the po741 on this ford is related to the tcc, this is the torque converter clutch, the converter clutch seliniod may be bad, you will need to test it and omh it and check for shorts or open circuit in the seliniod.

FIRST REPLACE THE FUEL FILTER.CHECK FUEL PRESSURE IT SHOULD BE 41 - 47 PSI.IF NOT FUEL PUMP IS FAULTY.IF FUEL PUMP OKAY.PROBLEM COULD BE THE TORQUE CONVERTER STILL STUCK IN LOCK UP POSITION.COULD BE LOW TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL.FAULTY TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH VALVE STUCK OR TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID IS BAD.USE A CODE SCANNER TO CHECK FOR FAULTY TRANSMISSION SHIFT CODES.IF HAS BEEN A LONG TIME CHANGE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND FILTER IF IT LOOKS BLACK AND SMELL BURNT.

Transmission

Dodge transmissions require a very SPECIFIC fliud. It is called:
ATF+4. If you did noty ust this fluid, it will cause harsh shifts and downshifts. If you did use the right tranny fluid, then you will need to do what is called a "Transmission Quick Relearn". If you do not own a scan tool, any auto repair shop with a decent scan tool can do this, or you'll have to take it to the dealer. This procedure should take 15 minutes or less.
