Are you referring to the throttle position sensor? I have also heard that the mass air flow sensor could cause the same symptoms. Can't find the diagnostic hook-up to the computer. Went to Advance Auto Parts and they couldn't find it either.

Thanks, I did notice what I thought was two throttle sensors.

Then it's not the fuel filter - if it would have been it the problem would have gotten worse, not better.
Most likely the idle sensor on the throttle is malfunctioning - replace it. To be sure of that you should first have the error codes read - it will provide you with a much better diagnosis.

Not quite, on BMW of this age there is a separate idle sensor (it signals that the throttle is completely closed).

The mass air flow sensor should have a very unusual defect for this to happen - it should be imprecise only at very low air flow levels. But who know, it might happen.
You need to read the codes (OBD1 type) from the BMW round service connector under the hood via BMW software. I've read that Carsoft and Peake readers also work but i never had them in my hands so i can't guarantee you that.

How do i find the fuel pump relay switch on 2000 bmw 740il

I do not have the 740IL manual, but generally the fuel pump relay is either on the right side in the trunk above the battery or behind the glove box. (there is usually a little card indicating which relay it is)

Why is my1997 bmw Z3 1.9 start rough for 2min then is ok

The EGR valve opens when the engine is warming up, which allows exhaust to enter the intake manifold. This is essentially "extra air" coming into the engine. The engine has an "idle speed control" function, which is either a solenoid or small stepper motor connected to a valve that allows a controlled amount of air to "sneak" by the throttle plate in the throttle body. Fundamentally, it is the amount of air entering a fuel injected engine that controls engine RPM. A defective idle speed control ("ISC) motor or solenoid can cause the problem you stated. (I do not know which type is used in your BMW.) Often, a check engine light will illuminate of the engine computer cannot adequately regualte engine idle speed.

1988 suburban idles rough at stop

you have built up carbon in your fuel system, try buying a bottle of Lucas that will clean up your fuel jets, you also need a engine cleaner Run a better octane gas not the highest but, one in the middle, than drive it by punching the gas peddle off and on quickly to blow out the exhaust lines and your eg valve that builds up carbon and also the lines, sometime these have to be taken off and c leaned manually in a bucked of kerosene good luck

My 95 Windstar idles very roughly. It starts just fine but after about 4 to 5 minutes it starts idling roughly. I put a new air filter in but that didn't do anything.

Hi, Try to replace fuel filter. It maybe clogged up and making engine run rough or poor. Also check and replace spark plugs. A bad spark plug will make it run rough too. Good luck.

My 95 bmw wagon runs rough when yo accelerate but runs smooth when you let off what could it be . also when you idle at a light it sounds like it is going to die. and hills are the worst

try replacing the fuel filter do a top engine clean test the fuel pressure for fuel pressure, if it's low you will need t replace the fuel pump and fuel sock.

Check engine light comes on but car runs great 2002 bmw 325i and

The check engine light could be any number of things and the only way to find out is have the codes scanned. The brake light issue is common on E46 3 series. It is an issue were the brown ground wire that goes into the lamp housing melts at the connector causing a loose ground connection. The connector needs to be replaced and also add additional grounding wires to prevent further issues. And for fuel additives either use the cheveron techron, or the bmw fuel additive(the bmw stuff is the exact same thing, so just use which ever is cheaper).
