Question about 1997 Chevrolet Lumina
My name is David I'll be helping you today:
#1) 1st thing Check to make sure your Serpetine Drive Belt is'nt broken,or has came off ,And Check your Belt Tensioner to make sure its not broken or damaged.
#2) Check to make sure your Battery is Good.By getting it fully charged and then have a Load test done on it.
#3) Be sure your Battery cables are good and clean and FREE of any corrosion before you hook up your fully charged battery.
#4) If your battery passes the LOAD Test then you'll need to Run a Test on your Alternator for amperage out-put. I'm sure that most of us don't have all the Testing Tools to check these out.
#4-A So most auto parts stores have these testers or your local mechanic. Most Auto Stores check it for FREE .
#5) Your Voltage Regulator is Integrated in your Alternator, So you'll be Testing Both Alternator and Regulator during the Alternator test.

The ground wire in the trunk area, coming from the brake light harness, might have come off or really loose. Hope this will get your lights working again. Best wishes.

Turn key ignition forward but do not start engine. Pump gas pedal fully 3 times then engine light will start flashing. Do not pump gas pedal short quick pumps. After light is flashing turn ignition off then start engine. The check engine will reset it's self.
