You have to replace the float which is located with the fuel pump. Usually the dealer only sells the floats as the auto parts store sell the pumps not floats. You can call and see if they do as all you need is the model year and engine size and they can tell you if they have the parts or need to order.

If you maintain your fuel 1/4 of the guage most probably your sensor is already rust. check the sensor in the fuel tank.

Fuel guage

the guage gets a earth signal from the sender ,, depending on the amount the guage rises accordingly ,, if the wire is touching earth any where the guage will go up to full,,,, disconnect the fuel sender and see does the guage drop,, it should if there is no short in the wiring ,,,,if it does drop you then have to recheck the sender ,,, if the guage stays full you have to check wiring for a short ,,,,, if you are able you could strip out the guage and disconnect the plug at the rear of it to make sure that the guage itself is not faulty,,,,

Just fueled up at the service station now the fuel guage keeps going up and down saying full then empty 2010 subaru impreza

Possible fault in the fuel guage float as it mught have got damaged and is floating according to the movement of the fuel in the tank than to float up.
Also it is possible that the fuel tank rheostat is faulty or the ground connection of the rheostat.
check also the dash cluster to the guage for any loose connections.

Grand prix gas gauge not working

should be a grey wire going to the top of fuel tank connects to fuel guage / when the guage in the tank reads grounded it shows full , no ground it shows empty. if you ground that grey wire and the guage jumps to full then faulty guage if nothing maybe bad ground on the tank itself. the guages are a reostat like a tyco race car gun the more it moves the more it grounds .. good luck

Hi
We have the same truck that does the same thing.
The fuel sender in tank is faulty. It is in your gas tank. Common chevrolet problem.

Fuel guage-1991 ford aerostar

2 things.
There is a sensor that goes from the dash to the fuel pump. If it is disconnected, dirty, or faulty, then thats an easy fix.
There is also a float in the gas tank itself. From what Ive been told after time, or going over big speed bumps, etc, that the float just simply doesnt float or register.
Mine actually shows I have a full tank or im empty at all times. No in between.
