I would say the oil pump is the problem.Since your guage goes up and then comes down after 3000 RPM,it seems to be doing what it's supposed to.The ticking could be lifters/tappets.If it isn't too loud,it isn't bad.If it is real loud,I don't know how to describe loudness if you know what I mean without hearing it,it may require work but I'll tell you now, there will probably be a lot of labor cost.If you aren't sure about the loudness of the ticking, take it to a shop which is AAA approved. They have to be a reputable shop to have that.If you take it to the dealer, only get an opinion because I guarantee they will say it needs this and that and this and that.Shops will give you a free opinion because it is good business.A AAA shop will tell you if you need to worry about it or not(at least they should).I got taken by a shop I used to go to all the time.It was because the guy we knew owned the place had sold it and we didn't know it.This chain has a lot of complaints too.I found a AAA guy and he has beat any price in town by a considerable amount.
Good luck! Greg

couple things to check out.check the fuel pressure with a gauge it should 35lbs plus or minus 2.if its too low then replace pump,if its good then check fuel pump volume it should be about a pint in 10/15 seconds.if this is low replace pump.make sure you replace the fuel filter as well.the other thing to check is the exhaust for a restriction.you can do a back pressure test at the converter by removing the O2 sensor and install a backpressure gauge and starting and idling the motor, the pressure should be less than .2 and then increase the rpm to 2000/2500 it should be less than 2lbs.if its more then you more than likely have a plugged catalytic convertor, and need replacing.tap along the exhaust to see if you hear any rattling or dents(crushed) pipes.if you hear a rattle chances are the catalyst has come apart and will need to be removed from the exhaust when the converter is replaced.check for codes in the computer as not all codes will turn on the check engine light.you could have a worn out throttle position sensor(tps) it will have to be check with high quility volt meter

How do i check oil pressure on 2005 dodge magnum

remove the oil sending unit and install a oil pressure gauge. You did not specify the motor so you can find it by the oil filter.remove the oil sending unit and install the gauge.Let the motor get to operating temperature and check pressure.Should be @ idle over 5 psi.5 is minimum.@ 3000 rpm should be 45-105.Hope this helps.Good luck.

Check intake gaskets. Pour warm soapy water on the gasket when it's running. If it bubbles like crazy, you have a leak. 2. Check timing. Shoot a timing light at the crank mark. If it jumps around a lot, your chain has jumped. #3. check cam. Remove valve covers, run the engine, and see if they are all raisng the valves the same. Put a piece of cardboard along the bottom, and fold it around a little, so it forms kind of a " half valve cover". That way you won't lose oil everywhere, and make a mess, or a fire.

Engine knock hard over 2500 rpm

Does the oil light come on or the knock occur during the engine warm up after a cold start?
There could be a couple of problems causing the issue. You could have an oil pressure pump or pump pressure regulator sticking. I would have a mechanical oil pressure gauge installed and verify oil pressure at idle and 2500 rpms to make sure oil pressure is in normal ranges.
You could also have excessive piston rod bearing, crankshaft bearing or cam shaft bearing wear that will cause oil pressure to drop too low to prevent the rod knock your hearing at 2500 rpm.
You said a knock and not a ticking noise,so I don't believe a lifter is the issue at 2500 rpm.
Start with the oil pressure check and go from there.
Let me know.

The oil pressure gauge keeps dropping down to 0 while i am driving

If you don't hear any ticking or knocking while the pressure gauge drops, the problem is probably a failing "oil pressure sensor". If you do hear a ticking or knocking, the problem is probably a failing "oil pump".

My car ticks sometimes. I have gotten a oil change and continue to check the oil and it still ticks. Pretty loud sometimes.

maybe a hydraulic lifter or a central bearing.... do you hav trouble accelarating at all? if its they hydraulic lifter, you will be fine for about 90k miles and even then nothing serious will happen, its just annoying. if its the central bearing on your motor, then you will have anywhere from 0-3000 miles left until your engine shuts down on you and your car stops moving. for me it's the hydraulic lifter witch triggered the knock sensor, which is there to detect knocks for oil related problems but unfortunaetly picked up my knocking too and thus went into its "energy saving" mode and slowed accelaration down ALOT in order to protect my motor. of course since it was a hydraulic lifter, this was pointless to me. if this is your case just take it to a mechanic and pay $40 to get the knock sensor unplugged. this won't solve the knocking itself but it will allow the car to accelarate at w/e speed you want. THIS IS NOT the solution to every knocking/ticking problem. there are MANY different ones out there so the best way is to get it checked out by a mechanic.
