Question about Ford Fairmont

Open Question

I have a 1997 Ford Falcon Sedan GLi Automatic and I am having issues with the car using too much fuel, being down on power and when the engine is cold and not in gear if I press the accelerator the car hesitates and takes a few seconds before it starts reving (wont even spin wheels on gravel in first gear never mind in D). The car has had a new ignition coil due to failure, radiator due to corrosion (temperature gage sits just below the normal line now but was doing this before the problem came and was working fine so don't think this is an issue but I'm no mechanic), oxygen sensor replaced as this came up in diagnostics computer, air and fuel systems cleaned out to try and fix this problem. I had the car at a mechanics and he suggested that it could be the transmission but I am not convinced as the car hesitates to rev when not in gear. The exhaust also has a few holes in it but again it was like this before the problem occurred. Can you please give me a solution or suggestions as to what I/we should be looking for. Thanks Simon.

Have them change the knock sensor. What this sensor does, is sense preignition and ****** the timing when predetonation is detected. If the sensor is keeping the ignition retarded, you will have lack of power, poor transmission shifting(a lot of times a trans can be mis diagnosed due to a driveability malfunction). What he will see on the scanner is timing that will either not change or change very little. If you can hear knocking while accelerating(even standing still) this is a good indication. You are correct, that is high consumption. One thing you can do for yourself is, whilst driving at around 60 kms, step on the accelerator and listen very closley for an almost metallic pinging coming from the engine bay. This is a great confirmation and you will be able to instruct your mechanic what to change. Let me know and I will continue to assist.

I have a 1997 Ford falcon Gli EL auto sedan. I need to obtain new front L&R light assemblies. Can you help.

Just contact some vehicle dismantlers/wreckers in your area that deal in Ford parts.

Getting a set of those front lights in good shape should be fairly easy as there are many of these vehicles in wreckers yards now.

How to change headlights bulb on ford falcon future 1998 sedan?

Pretty easy.....behind the bulb in the engine bay, you will see the lead that goes into the headlight assembly. There is a spring lock that holds the globe in. Just pull it out and replace.

    Adjusting headlights

    Hi Sara,
if you look behind the headlight assembly you should find the adjusting screws for moving the light sideways and up and down. Best way to do it is to put your car 2m away from a wall and on flat ground and adjust the height of the beams on the wall.
    Cheers
