Question about 2002 Volkswagen Jetta TDI

1 Answer

Hi I recently purchased a 2002 jetta from a so called friend of mine. before i purchased it she told me it burned oil and that sometimes on the interstate it would blow out smoke when she reached a high speed. i drove it for about a month and then had a baby. in the 6 weeks of my recovery the car sat idle in the driveway. when i decided to go for a ride i cranked it up and it started shaking and the cel was blinking. once on the road the car shut off at the first traffic light. i had my son in the car so i didn't drive it far before getting it back home. i spoke with the "friend" that i bought it from and she said the transmission and cad converter had recently been replaced. i know the engine is misfiring but what could be the cause of it and is it worth fixing?

Make sure the drain bolt is tight and filter is tight first then look for your self and see If the value cover has oil around it if so it is the covers if not it could be your seals

My 2002 vw jetta diesel tdi had a recent oil change and I just checked the oil and it is way high. If I drive it will it mess the car up? I have driven it already but I'm really worried.

If it is grossly overfilled it can damage the engine as well as **** oil into the air cleaner and then the engine, on a diesel this can cause a run away engine because a diesel will burn the oil like fuel.

Brake light needs replacing. Manual states "take to VW dealer" Can't I replace it myself?

I just called my local Autozone and asked for a brake light for a 2004 Jetta, they asked the engine size. I told them I was looking for a buddy of mine and I don't know the engine size. I told them the take to a dealer thing in the manual. They sell the bulbs for around $6. They are Sylvania. If it were a dealer only thing autozone wouldn't sell the bulb. Take it to your local autozone/pep boys/advanced auto store and they will replace it for you at no extra charge. I know autozone does this for sure. If you can do it yourself just remember to wear gloves to prevent the oil from your finger prints from getting on the bulb. This is especially true for headlights. The oil can burn thru the glass and blow the bulb prematurely

Daewoo Nubeira smoke from exhaust + keeps overheating, do you think it is head gasket or could it be something else??

i pretty sure thats a head gasket. black smoke comes from burining oil. white smoke comes from burning antifreeze.

Oil engine is flashing 5 times after starting the engine

change the sensor...however, I bet you are using very thin oil or you oil pump is going bad.  Have the oil pressure tested.
