It needs the capacitor to release sparks. You can buy one for $10-15 at the parts store. Just bolt it to the engine under a valve cover bolt and connect it to the coil.
I\'m assuming you have the 3.8 engine, although i believe the firing order is the same on all there v6 sideways mounted front wheel drive Windstars. That firing order is 1-4-2-5-3-6, with 1-2-3 going from left to right on the back side of the engine and 4-5-6 left to right on the front side of the engine.Looking straight down at the coil from the front of the car,you\'ll see 2 rows of coil terminals. The row on the right side is 1-2-3 going from top to bottom, row on left side is 6-5-4 going from top to bottom. Hook the number 1 coil terminal to the number 1 spark plug ,being careful to use the spark plug wire that is closest in length to the length you need. If your just replacing wires, yuo shouldn\'t have to much trouble. If your nreplacing the spark plugs you will find the ones in the rear, especially the number 2 [the middle one} are pretty difficult without removing the cowling. A total pain brought to you by the designers at Ford!
Standing in front of the car
looking at the the coil packs, there are three of them. From left to
right, the first coil pack is 1 & 4, the second coil pack is 6 &
3, and the third coil pack is 2 & 5. Now standing in front of
the engine, the three cylinders in front of the radiator are 2,4
& 6 starting from the belt side of engine and the ones in the back off engine are 1,3 & 5.
First, look at the coils see if the towers are numbered. Each coil fires 2 cylinders!
look on intake manifold for fireing order display! The v6 engine fires from one bank across to the other in a straight line example, cylinders 1&2 3&4 and 5&6 at the rear of the engine or farthest right side. 1&2 left side faceing engine 3&4 in the middle. All you need to do is find cylinder # 1 hook up the # 1 wire to the # 1 coil tower to the # 1 plug or cylinder, follow the fireing order 123456,its simple if you cant see coil tower numbers look at another car with same engine that has distributor less ignition. The coil pack for the 4 cylinder gm has plug wire terminals or towers numbered as well.Only in a harder place to see like behind and underneath!
OK most stock engines for daily street driving use the NGK BUR6 and BUR8 spark plugs the 6's go in the Leading side so the bottom 2 spark plug holes. The 8's go in the Trailing side which is the top 2 spark plug holes.
Now as far as the plug wires. You have 2 coil packs one will have markings by the output tips that say L1 and L2 the other will say T1 and T2. its very simple L= Leading side, or bottom plug. T=Trailing side or top plug. 1=Front rotor, 2=Rear rotor.
Hook up everything that way and you should have no more issues.
The procedure to replace spark plugs in
Mazda -3 2006 model is as follows:-- 1) Start by disconnecting the negative terminal from the battery. 2) Now remove the black plastic cover from the top of the engine. It
snaps into place, so just pull straight up. 3) The four
cylindrical gizmo's are the coils which mount directly above the four spark
plugs. 4) Remove the four bolts (studs) that are securing the coils, and
pull the connections straight up off the spark-plugs. Remove the plugs with a
deep socket, or spark-plug socket. 5) You may have to grasp the plugs with a needle nose pliers to get
them out after loosening them. 6) Install the new spark
plugs in reverse method and refit all the wires and bolts which you removed. Thanks. you can rate this
solution and show your appreciation.
pull of the engine covers if so equipped, the plugs each have there own ignition coil, they are held in position by a singleretainer, remove the coils to access the plugs. see photo of coil
check the ignition coil power source...get a test light & check for power with the key on @ the positive side of the coil...if it does have power have a friend crank the engine over & check the negative side for a flashing light..if it does then make sure you have spark @ the coil if not replace the coil
